President Muhammadu Buhari\u00a0Friday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in Abuja said he made his intention to
\ncontest the 2019 Presidential Elections known early in order to douse
\nrising speculations and give the party, All Progressives Congress (APC),
\nenough time to prepare for the polls.<\/p>\n

President Buhari, who received members of the Buhari Support Group Centre
\n(BSGC) at the State House, said he noticed that speculations were already
\nconstituting distraction to governance and stirring tensions, so he had to
\ndeclare during the National Executive Committee meeting of the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to announce before the National Executive Committee of our party
\nabout my intention to ask for the party\u2019s nomination for next year\u2019s
\nelection so that we can save a lot of time and cool tempers.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot people were trying to make it a habit of being a nuisance to
\nthemselves and many Nigerians, so when I came out I said those who are
\nserious let them come out.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I tried to make sure that the party is organized and consolidated so
\nthat we start from the bottom to the top, and that Nigerians will be
\ninvolved in a way that each constituency will pick those that are going to
\nrepresent them at various levels, whether as Local Government chairmen, in
\nthe State Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and finally the
\npresident,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

The President said early declaration guaranteed more participation and
\ninclusivity within the party, and further strengthened the bond with
\nsupporters and Nigerians.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the people thought to be uneducated and unsophisticated are very
\neducated and sophisticated during elections; for those who have money to
\ngive they say bring the money we will still do what we want to do,\u2019\u2019 he
\nadded.<\/p>\n

President Buhari noted that God\u2019s divine intervention and the use of
\ntechnology during the 2015 elections exposed the weakness of previous
\nprocesses where a privileged few sat and allocated figures to
\nconstituencies during elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey just sit and look at a constituency and they award the numbers, then
\nthey say anybody who disagrees should go to court; now for somebody who is
\nlooking for the next meal where does he get money to pay Senior Advocates
\nof Nigeria?<\/p>\n

\u201cThank God for technology, with the PVC you know where you registered and
\nit can be shown whether you voted or not,\u2019\u2019 the President said.<\/p>\n

He advised Nigerians to get their voters card for the 2019 elections, and
\nensure that they vote to please their conscience with pride as citizens.
\nThe President commended the BSGC for all the sacrifice and steadfastness
\nin championing his candidacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thank you very much for the sacrifice you have been making. I am happy
\nto use this opportunity to meet you and thank you for the sacrifices and
\nsteadfastness. I don\u2019t think I can thank you enough because by identifying
\nyourself as a group for all these years and getting nothing for it visibly
\nI think its worthy of commendation,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, the Coordinator of the BSGC, Umaru Dembo, said \u201cthrough
\nthick and thin, rain or sun shine, hot or cold we are here to assure Mr
\nPresident that since 2014 we have been working, expanding and helping to
\nexplain the new life that your government has ushered in for the good
\npeople of Nigeria.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

He said the BSGC had initiated the documentation of the President\u2019s
\nachievements in a book authored by Dr Sani Muktar Bichi and himself.<\/p>\n

Dembo assured the President of a bottom-up process of mobilising more
\nsupporters for the administration, while appreciating him for reversing
\nthe trend of impunity, corruption and lawlessness that reigned before
\n2015.<\/p>\n

Dembo said the BSGC was an umbrella organisation encompassing \u201cWomen for
\nBuhari and Osinbajo\u2019\u2019, \u201cA Kasaa Tsare\u2019\u2019, \u201cNorthern Youth Assembly,”
\n“Buhari Renewal mandate\u2019\u2019 and others in support of good governance in
\nNigeria.<\/p>\n
