{"id":63102,"date":"2018-07-20T19:58:46","date_gmt":"2018-07-20T18:58:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=63102"},"modified":"2018-07-20T20:26:29","modified_gmt":"2018-07-20T19:26:29","slug":"kaduna-pdp-opts-for-consensus-candidate-to-defeat-el-rufai-saad-may-emerge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/kaduna-pdp-opts-for-consensus-candidate-to-defeat-el-rufai-saad-may-emerge\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaduna PDP opts For Consensus Candidate To Defeat El-Rufai, Sa&#8217;ad May Emerge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No fewer than eight governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party<br \/>\n(PDP) in Kaduna State have agreed to come out with a consensus candidate<br \/>\nfor the 2019 election.<\/p>\n<p>One of the aspirants, Dr Ja\u2019afaru Sa\u2019ad, who made this known in an<br \/>\ninterview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_758988254\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Friday<\/span><\/span>,<br \/>\ndescribed the development as commendable.<\/p>\n<p>Sa\u2019ad, who holds the traditional title of Galadiman Ruwan Zazzau, said<br \/>\nthat the idea was for the PDP to form a united front capable of defeating<br \/>\nwhoever the ruling APC field as its candidate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEight of us seeking for the party ticket have been urged by our party to<br \/>\ngo, discuss among ourselves and come out with a consensus candidate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are all qualified and capable, but as members of the same family we do<br \/>\nnot have room for internal crisis usually associated with primary<br \/>\nelections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo me, this is a unity of purpose. All we want is victory comes 2019<br \/>\nelections, not only for our party but primarily for the people of Kaduna<br \/>\nState, whom we hope to represent and serve, \u201che said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the measure would enable the party channel all its resources,<br \/>\nexpertise and energy into ensuring that it put up a good fight and wrestle<br \/>\npower from the APC.<\/p>\n<p>He identified the other aspirants as Malam Isah Ashiru, Mohammed Sani<br \/>\nBello; Bello Kagarko; Sani Sidi; Jonathan Kish; Ramalan Yero the immediate<br \/>\npast governor of the state; and Shuaibu Mikati.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur central goal is to beat the APC and its candidate, as such, the need<br \/>\nfor PDP, being a one united family to work together for the interest of<br \/>\nthe party and the people of the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEight of us were at the meeting\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_758988255\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Tuesday<\/span><\/span>, except for Ashiru who sent a<br \/>\nrepresentative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe embraced the idea with all our heart. We will commence sitting<br \/>\nhopefully this week to bring out one candidate that will beat the APC come<br \/>\n2019 elections,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n<p>Sa\u2019ad encouraged other states and\u00a0 \u201ceven at the national level for the<br \/>\npresidential seat\u201d to take similar step in the selection of candidates for<br \/>\nvarious offices.<\/p>\n<p>However, Pointblanknews.com gathered from sources within the PDP that<br \/>\nSa&#8217;ad appears to have won the heart of leaders of the party leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Sa&#8217;ad, A Wharton Graduate and a Finance\/Economic expert is said to be<br \/>\nseriously considered for the Governorship ticket because of his background<br \/>\nand as an untainted politician.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He is a clean candidate. He has shown himself to be someone with plans<br \/>\nfor everyone in Kaduna and we are pleased with what we have seen of him.<br \/>\nOur leaders think he has what it takes to put Kaduna in the rightful<br \/>\nplace,&#8221; a PDP stalwart from Kaduna state told Pointblanknews.com in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>According to the PDP chieftain who does not want to be named, &#8220;Sa&#8217;ad has<br \/>\nno case in the EFCC or anywhere and if our party want someone with no<br \/>\nblemish or scandal, we certainly have found one in Sa&#8217;ad.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the decision, Malam Ibrahim Wusono, the PDP Secretary in the<br \/>\nstate, said that it was a collective agreement of the party executives,<br \/>\nelders and members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have the option of either coming out with a consensus candidate out of<br \/>\nthe eight currently vying for the gubernatorial ticket, or conducting an<br \/>\nelection if we could not reach a consensus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs party executive, we met with members, elders of the party; former Vice<br \/>\nPresident Namadi Sambo and Mohammed Makarfi among others to decide on the<br \/>\nway forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur leaders assured us that they do not have a candidate, that their<br \/>\ncandidate is the people\u2019s candidate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe summoned a meeting on Tuesday July 17 to see the possibility of a<br \/>\nconsensus candidate that will be acceptable by members and the people of<br \/>\nKaduna State; someone who if elected will be a leader of all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if not possible, then we will have to conduct election when the time<br \/>\ncomes. But we were happy when the eight aspirants bought the idea and<br \/>\npromised to get back to us very soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wusono, however, said that if another aspirants emerge after the consensus<br \/>\ncandidate has been decided, the party would not deny him the opportunity<br \/>\nto aspire for the governorship ticket.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will ask such a person to meet with the consensus candidate and decide<br \/>\nwho should carry the flag. If that fails then we will have to conduct an<br \/>\nelection,\u201d Wusono added.<\/p>\n<p>NAN reports that Ashiru was a former local government chairman, state<br \/>\nAssembly and two term member of the\u00a0 House of Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Bello, the Mainan Zazzau is a lecturer and a former commissioner in the<br \/>\nstate while Kagarko was also a former commissioner of Education during the<br \/>\nMakarfi administration.<\/p>\n<p>Sidi too is a former commissioner in the state and the immediate past<br \/>\nDirector General, National Emergency Management Agency.<\/p>\n<p>Adamu who is from Kaura LGA, is a former Attorney General and Commissioner<br \/>\nfor Justice and former House of Assembly Member in the state.<\/p>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"adL\"><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No fewer than eight governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State have agreed to come out with a consensus candidate for the 2019 election.
