The Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has
\ndistanced the national oil company and its Group Managing Director, Dr.
\nMaikanti Baru from the ongoing political tango in the National Assembly
\nand the trending reports in some section of the media insinuating that the
\nCorporation\u2019s helmsman had doled out funds to effect the impeachment of
\nSenate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki .<\/p>\n
The Corporation in a terse statement issued by its Group General Manager,
\nGroup Public Affairs Division, Ndu Ughamadu, described the report as the
\nhandiwork of mischief makers seeking to drag the NNPC and its GMD into a
\npurely political affair totally different from its mandate as the national
\noil company with fiduciary responsibilities to the government and people
\nof the Federal Republic of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The NNPC emphasized that the report is not only false but also an affront
\non the verifiable reforms in the operations of the corporation under the
\nremit of Dr. Baru which has witnessed irreversible strides in the area of
\ntransparency leading to the sustained publication of NNPC monthly
\noperations and financial records.<\/p>\n
The statement added that it is mere fiction and outright \u2018\u2019tales by
\nmoonlight\u2019\u2019 for anybody to insinuate that Dr. Baru or anybody else could
\njust take a dip into the Corporation\u2019s till and dole out the volume of
\nfunds being portrayed in that phantom report for political purpose.<\/p>\n
The Corporation called on all well-meaning members of the public and oil
\nand gas industry stakeholders to discountenance the said story noting that
\nthe Management of the NNPC remains committed to its statutory role and
\nresponsibility to the entire federation.<\/p>\n
