The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party in the State of Osun
\nfaces a grave impasse in its role in Nigerian politics. Torn between
\nideology and personal interest, the party is splitting as no fewer than 10
\nparty leaders threw away their brooms to join the Action Democratic Party
\n(ADP).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe once coercive robust and highly structured Osun state chapter of the
\nAPC is deeply embroil with series of crisis resulting from high handedness
\nfrom the executive arm or government that claimed lack of confidence in
\nthe state Exco members of the party, the band of leaders alleged.<\/p>\n
\u201d For this reason, the Governor refused to interact or meet with the Exco
\nsince 2014 till date.\u201d<\/p>\n
In their resignation letter addressed to the chairman of the state APC,
\nthe chieftains explained what inspired their defection.
\n\u201cOn assumption of office, we all took the oath to do justice to all and
\nnot allow personal interests to interfere with our official
\nresponsibilities. Recent political developments in the state more
\nespecially within the All Progressive Congress (APC) has proved otherwise.
\nThis to us, negates our individual principles\/ interest and a moral burden
\nwhich leave us with no other option than to quit.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile thanking you for the support and opportunity given to serve, we
\nshall forever remain committed to the democratic values and progress of
\nthe state in whatever capacity we find ourselves.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was observed that the APC administration under the watch of Prince
\nAdegboyega Famodun is gradually losing its credibility and becoming
\nunpopular due to his insensitivity, insincerity, double standard,
\nhypocrisy and a stooge to few individuals who allows personal interest to
\noverride the wishes of the majority of our party members.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn some cases, he was directed to work for ALLIANCE FOR DEMOCRACY (AD) in
\nOndo state as against the APC candidature and at the onset of this
\ntransition preparation, the chairman has been working underneath for the
\ncandidature of Alhaji Isiaka Oyetola. Several meetings were held both in
\nLagos and Osun with some leaders (names withheld) on how to ensure victory
\nfor the above name candidate at all cost. We challenged him to deny all
\nthese allegations.
\n\u201cWith deliberate communication gap between the party and the executive arm
\nof government, it makes it easy and possible for the governor to introduce
\nseries of anti-masses policies such as limiting the ages of all political
\nappointees to below 50, refusal to constitute cabinet members immediately
\nafter his first and second term of office, creating a vacuum at almost
\nlevel of government parastatals till date. To the governor, the Igbimo
\nAgba\u2019 constituted by him is just an advisory body that never have a say in
\nany decision taken so far in the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe just concluded direct primary conducted in Osun was adopted to make
\nthe election clumsy and allow manipulation. The exercise was intentionally
\narranged, skewed and designed to favour a preferred candidate of a
\nparticular national leader. This was obvious due to the heavy presence of
\nstate paraphernalia before, during and after the process leading to the
\nsaid fraudulent direct primary election.<\/p>\n
\u201cLadies and gentlemen, these state executive members that are quitting APC
\ntoday believe that no man has monopoly of knowledge why intelligence
\nresides with the people. We detached ourselves completely from those that
\nwant to old Osun state into ransom. This state was created as a state not
\nas an annex to another state or a property of an emperor. We decided to
\nstand with honour, character and integrity so that posterity will judge us
\nright.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe only party with a banner without stain is action democratic party
\n(ADP), thus our desire to join the party after wild rigorous consultation
\nwith our leaders, political associates, mentors and our family members.<\/p>\n
