A former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the
\nblockade of the National Assembly by officials of the Department of State
\nServices (DSS)\u00a0on Tuesday<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

In a statement, he described the move as an illegal and undemocratic
\nattempt by fascist forces to break into the National Assembly for the
\npurpose of furthering the agenda to force a change in the leadership of
\nthe Senate.<\/p>\n

According to him, there are other serious challenges to be addressed in
\nthe nation than for the security operatives to focus on laying a siege to
\nthe citadels of democracy.<\/p>\n

He, therefore, called on all those involved to bring a stop to their actions.<\/p>\n

The attention of former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has been
\ndrawn to an illegal and undemocratic attempt by fascist forces to break
\ninto the National Assembly for the purpose of furthering the agenda to
\nforce a change in the Nigerian Senate\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

Atiku Abubakar completely condemns this atrocity and calls on all those
\ninvolved to put Nigeria first and abandon this madness.<\/p>\n

The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended,
\nguarantees both the independence of the Legislature and Separation of
\nPowers.<\/p>\n

Nigeria is a democracy not a military dictatorship and we the people will
\nnever return to tyranny.<\/p>\n

Atiku Abubakar calls on President Muhammadu Buhari and acting President
\nYemi Osinbajo to stop hiding behind one finger and live up to their
\nresponsibility of upholding the constitution and law and order, which they
\nswore to on May 29, 2015.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe warned that if what occurred in Benue last week was not checked on
\ntime, it would escalate to the federal level. Today we are seeing that
\nwarning in play.\u201d<\/p>\n

The acting President, being himself a Professor of Law, ought to know that
\nsetting such a precedent is an invitation to anarchy.<\/p>\n

There are better uses for our security forces at this time than to lay
\nsiege to our citadels of democracy. Our people are languishing in the
\nmidst of unprecedented insecurity and nationwide killings.<\/p>\n

To thus deploy our security forces in this present manner whilst Nigerians
\nface these challenges is an abdication of responsibility, to say the
\nleast.<\/p>\n

All Nigerians should be watchful and mobilised to defend democracy. We
\nmust remember that \u2018eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.<\/p>\n
