The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says Acting President Yemi Osinbajo
\nshould shed the idea of using the sacked Director General (DG) of the
\nDirectorate of Security, Lawan Daura as \u2018the fall guy\u2019 for\u00a0Tuesday\u2019s<\/span><\/span>
\ninvasion of the National Assembly by security forces.<\/p>\n

The party insists that the invasion by the DSS and Police was with the
\nabsolute knowledge and approval of President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice
\nPresident Osinbajo, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that
\nDaura\u2019s sack was an afterthought, diversionary and deceitful.<\/p>\n

The PDP recalls that it issued series of statements at the weekend
\nalerting Nigerians to the plots against the National Assembly and
\ndemocracy ahead of President Buhari\u2019s overseas trip noting that the
\nPresidency was silent on all the alarms raised by the Buhari Presidency.<\/p>\n

If anything, they urged the Senators and Members to remain steadied in
\ntheir grave plan to ridicule our bastion of democracy, the National
\nAssembly.<\/p>\n

The Presidency\u2019s sack of Daura was a damage-control stunt and a
\nknee-jerk gimmick which came as a response to the national and
\ninternational outcry against the armed invasion of our legislature by
\nsecurity agents as directed by the Buhari Presidency.<\/p>\n

The action of security agents that blocked the National Assembly is
\ntreasonable and must attract appropriate sanctions under our law. It is
\nnot enough to take populist approach of easing Daura out of office. Our
\nparty demands an immediate investigation by an independent panel of
\ninquiry headed by a retired Chief Justice of Nigeria to examine the
\nremote and immediate cause of the invasion.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Section 16 of the Legislative House (Powers and Privileges)
\nAct, 2017, provides that any person, who by any act, obstructs members
\nof the National Assembly from performing their legislative duties, is
\nliable and punishable by imprisonment.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Nigerians observed that the invasion was not only by the
\nDSS, but also had the involvement of the Police, whose high command has
\nnot received any sanction or reprimand by the Presidency for its serial
\nacts of impunity.<\/p>\n

Finally, we commend PDP federal lawmakers, Nigerians, the media as well
\nas the international community who rose in defence of our democracy,
\neven as we remind all not to let down their guards.<\/p>\n
