The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told the All Progressives
\nCongress (APC) that it will henceforth vehemently dismantle its rigging
\nmachinery in future elections, beginning with the Osun governorship
\nelection next month.<\/p>\n
A statement signed by PDP Spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan said that it has
\nbecome manifest to Nigerians and all\u00a0 parties that the APC is only
\ninterested in rigging elections brazenly, it will henceforth contend with
\nAPC, head to head, means to means, scheme to scheme, shenanigan for
\nshenanigan, in all ramifications and magnitude, to discomfit them in all
\ncoming elections in the country.<\/p>\n
“The PDP said it has thoroughly reviewed all infractions, barefaced
\nsuppression, unleashing of violence and unabashed use of security forces
\nand compromised electoral officers to rig elections against it since the
\nassumption of office of President Muhammadu Buhari and vowed to never
\nagain allow the APC and its Federal Government to continue to use foul
\nmeans to usurp power as it has done in the past and merely ask the PDP
\nto go to court. Never!<\/p>\n
“The PDP has particularly reviewed the rigging of Edo state governorship
\nelection in 2016, the blatant rigging of the July 14, 2018 Ekiti state
\ngovernorship election and the last Saturday\u2019s federal constituency
\nbye-elections in Bauchi, Katsina and Kogi states.<\/p>\n
“The review shows that the PDP won in all the elections but was viciously
\nmanipulated out by the APC- controlled Federal Government through the
\ninstrumentality of violence against PDP agents and supporters, vote
\nbuying, use of thugs, ballot snatching, harassment, arrests, maiming and
\neven killing of PDP supporters in addition to use of compromised electoral
\nofficers to cancel votes belonging to the PDP, alter results from polling
\ncenters and then return APC candidates as winners.<\/p>\n
“Furthermore, the PDP takes very strong consideration of the open boasts
\nand chest-thumping by officials of the Buhari Presidency and the APC,
\nparticularly on their rigging of the Ekiti governorship and the federal
\nbye-elections in Bauchi, Katsina and Kogi states, where APC thugs were
\nallowed to freely use weapons against PDP supporters.<\/p>\n
“This is in addition to the unholy convergence of APC governors and
\nsecurity goons in constituencies where elections are held to supervise
\nthe free distribution of funds to buy votes, bribe electoral officers
\nand openly intimidate the people.<\/p>\n
“The PDP therefore resolves that in as much as it remains a law abiding
\npolitical party, conducting its affairs strictly within the ambit of our
\nnation\u2019s electoral laws; the party will henceforth directly and
\nphysically confront and resist the desperate and greedy power grabbers
\nfrom always having a field day in seizing our democratic institutions
\nand circumventing the rules during elections.<\/p>\n
“Consequently, the PDP directs all its state governors, officials at
\nstate and zonal chapters, national and state assembly members and all
\nother elected leaders at all levels to get ready to move into Osun state
\nand provide all support necessary and germane in all the nooks and
\ncrannies of Osun state in the forthcoming election.<\/p>\n
“Similarly, the PDP directs all its presidential aspirants to move all
\ntheir political machinery into Osun State within this period, as well as
\nget prepared to physically participate in the election process.<\/p>\n
“Our insistence as a party is for a level playing ground, a free, fair
\nand credible electoral process, where all votes will count just as our
\nparty provided for General Buhari in 2015, that enabled him to be
\nelected as president.<\/p>\n
“However, we will not accept our respect for democratic tenets to be
\ntaken as a mark of cowardice or weakness.<\/p>\n
“Finally, the PDP raises this as a wake-up call to all lovers of
\ndemocracy across our nation to rise in this spirit to safeguard our
\ndemocracy from all anti-democratic and oppressive forces represented by
\nthe APC and the Buhari Presidency.”<\/p>\n
