{"id":63640,"date":"2018-08-16T17:21:42","date_gmt":"2018-08-16T16:21:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=63640"},"modified":"2018-08-16T17:21:42","modified_gmt":"2018-08-16T16:21:42","slug":"judge-threatens-to-throw-out-case-against-jones-abiri-as-dss-lawyer-fails-to-show-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/judge-threatens-to-throw-out-case-against-jones-abiri-as-dss-lawyer-fails-to-show-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge Threatens To Throw Out Case Against Jones Abiri As DSS Lawyer Fails To Show Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Magistrate Chukwuemeka Nweke has threatened to strike out the case against<br \/>\nJones Abiri, following the absence of the main counsel to the Department<br \/>\nof State Services (DSS) at the court proceedings today.<\/p>\n<p>Another DSS lawyer at the court\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" data-term=\"goog_369709571\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Thursday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0asked for an adjournment<br \/>\nbecause the main lawyer handling the case was unavailable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt (the case) will not be able to go on because the substantive lawyer<br \/>\nhandling the case is indisposed and he communicated that to me only<br \/>\nyesterday,\u201d M.D. Tanko, the counsel, said.<\/p>\n<p>Abiri, who had been in detention since 2016, was scheduled for a court<br \/>\nhearing today.<\/p>\n<p>He was accused of bombing oil pipelines, planning attacks in Abuja and<br \/>\nthreatening international oil companies.<\/p>\n<p>In his ruling, Nweke, the magistrate, said the case would be struck out if<br \/>\nproof of evidence is not served by\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" data-term=\"goog_369709572\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Friday<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reasons advanced by the prosecution are not compelling. This court is<br \/>\nnot a holding cell.
