A former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Victor Attah, has doubted the
\ncapacity of ex-governor of the state, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to ensure
\nvictory for the All Progressives Congress in the state in 2019.<\/p>\n
Akpabio, who quit as the Senate Minority Leader recently defected from the
\nPeoples Democratic Party to the APC.<\/p>\n
Attah said, \u201cIf APC manages to win Akwa Ibom today, it would be in spite
\nof rather than because of Akpabio. This is because if you leave it to
\nAkpabio, I really don\u2019t believe APC can go far in Akwa Ibom State. This is
\nwhat I know to be the situation.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
The ex-governor, who spoke with News men on Thursday, said the APC
\ncelebrated Akpabio at the national level and that it was a completely
\ndifferent story at the state level.<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cThere is a saying in my home town that \u2018if you manage to cook a
\npot of soup, cover it properly because if you allow unworthy creatures
\nlike cockroaches, millipedes to crawl in, they make it sour.\u2019 This may
\njust happen to the APC at the state level. As an elder statesmen and an
\nobjective observer of what is going on in Akwa Ibom, there was a time I
\nwould have said that Akwa Ibom had become at least 80 per cent APC. I
\nwouldn\u2019t have been wrong.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
Attah also stated that there was a time the whole state was PDP and there
\nwere fights among the members, adding, \u201cSuddenly, Akpabio came and many
\nmoved to the APC. But today, there are defections as many of them returned
\nto the PDP. The APC in Akwa Ibom has to be careful otherwise they could
\nturn their pot of soup completely sour by certain things they are doing.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
According to him, at the national level, the PDP took a rookie first-time
\nsenator and gave him a ranking position.<\/p>\n
He noted, \u201cThe leader of the opposition is the leader of that party in the
\nSenate. You sang his praises and celebrated him. He leaves your party and
\nyou say he is a criminal and running away from the Economic and Financial
\nCrimes Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n
