group, Leah Sharibu, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to help her
\nregain freedom.She made the plea in an exclusive audio clip published by TheCable on Monday.<\/p>\n

In the clip, the 15-year-old who has been in captivity for six months also
\nsought help for her family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am Leah Sharibu, the girl that was abducted in GGSS Dapchi. I am
\ncalling on the government, particularly, the President to pity me and get
\nme out of this serious situation,\u201d she said in Hausa.<\/p>\n

The schoolgirl added, \u201cI also plead to the members of the public to help
\nmy mother, my father, my younger brother and relatives. Kindly help me out
\nof my predicament.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am calling on the government and people of goodwill to intervene to get
\nme out of my current situation. I am begging you to treat me with
\ncompassion. Thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leah, one of the over 100 schoolgirls abducted in February from the
\nGovernment Girls Secondary School, Dapchi in Yobe State, was kept in
\ncaptivity by the terrorists reportedly for refusing to renounce
\nChristianity.<\/p>\n

She was the only Christian among the girls.<\/p>\n

Following the abduction, the Federal Government said it was going with the
\noption of negotiation to ensure the Dapchi girls regain their freedom
\nrather than the use of military force.<\/p>\n

This led to the release of the girls (except Leah) who were brought back
\nto the community by the terrorists in March after spending four weeks in
\ncaptivity.<\/p>\n

But Leah\u2019s continued stay in the terrorists\u2019 captivity sparked a
\nwidespread criticism, although the government said it was making efforts
\nto ensure her safe return.<\/p>\n

Contrary to the claims that no money was paid for the release of the other
\nDapchi schoolgirls, the United Nations said they were returned \u201cin
\nexchange for a large ransom payment.\u201d<\/p>\n

A report released by the UN in mid-August also accused some
\nnon-governmental organisations of sending funds to Boko Haram and other
\nlocal terrorist groups in the West African region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
