Cross River State governor, Senator Ben Ayade, Saturday, flagged off<\/div>\n

construction work on the state’s West Africa Advanced Teachers Continuous
\nTraining College.<\/p>\n

Fielding questions from newsmen at the construction site located in Biase
\nLocal Government Area of the state, governor Ayade accompanied by his
\ndeputy, Prof Ivara Esu and some members of the state executive council,
\nintimated that the intent was to improve the performance and skills of
\nteachers while addressing WASCE performance in Cross River.<\/p>\n

“This will be the first of its kind in the entire West Africa, it will be
\nawarding degrees in collaboration with the British Canadian team, share
\naffiliation with other universities across the world, particularly Canada
\nand Britain,” Ayade stated.<\/p>\n

Affirming that the project will be completed within six months, the
\ngovernor also disclosed that “the college will have international
\nteachers, particularly from Pakistan and India to handle physics and
\nchemistry,” adding that government “will take a lot of teachers from the
\nPhilippines to teach in specialized areas focusing on improving WASCE
\nperformance in the state.”<\/p>\n

He said another intent for establishing the college was to move Cross
\nRiver to the first position in terms of performance in WAEC and NECO
\nexaminations, even as arrangement was in top gear to change the state
\nMinistry of Education to Ministry of Quality Education.<\/p>\n

The governor who disclosed that the choice of the project site was in
\nhonour of his deputy, Prof Ivara Esu, disclosed that “I just thought to
\nmyself that one day when we are out of office, they will ask what did you
\ndo for Biase people when you were a deputy governor?”<\/p>\n

Ayade remarked that in doing this, “you will have a very big project to
\nshow as a former Vice Chancellor, former Dean, a university professor and
\nnow a deputy governor, so, there is nothing that will please you more than
\nadding value to education in the state.”<\/p>\n

Ayade noted that “to have\u00a0 quality education, one must have good teachers’
\ntraining, so this institute is dedicated to teachers’ training located in
\nthe heartbeat of a city and location where they produce lots of professors
\nincluding the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, now the
\ndeputy governor of Cross River.”<\/p>\n

In his remarks, Esu lauded the governor for the honour done him to site
\nthe college in his home local government and for deciding that he should
\nrun with him for a second term.<\/p>\n

The elated deputy governor said: “My joy knows no bound and I am so happy.
\nI want to promise him that the same kind of support that I have given to
\nhim from 2015, I will continue to support him for ever even in and out of
\noffice.”<\/p>\n

On the project, Esu said: “I see this school in future being called Cross
\nRiver State University of Education as it will train teachers to be more
\neffective and these teachers will demonstrate their skills to the pupils
\nand students that will be admitted here.”<\/p>\n

He further added: “It will not only make the teachers to carter for the
\nneeds of Cross Riverians but also the rest of Nigerians and indeed West
\nAfrica as the name suggests.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
