President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday, in Abuja reassured Nigerians that his
\nadministration will sustain massive investments to upgrade and develop the
\ncountry\u2019s transport and power infrastructure.<\/p>\n
President Buhari stated this when he received members of the Association
\nof Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria (ARCAN) led by Ambassador Oladapo
\nFafowora.<\/p>\n
The President told the retired Ambassadors that Nigerians will never
\nforget the \u2018\u2018lost opportunity between 1999 and 2015,\u2019\u2019 when the nation had
\nhuge resources at its disposal.<\/p>\n
”There is no part of the country I haven\u2019t been to, having attempted to
\nbe President four times.<\/p>\n
”I know the condition of our roads. The rails were literally killed,
\nthere was no power despite the admittance of some previous leadership that
\nthey spent $16 billion on the sector.<\/p>\n
”Today, we are getting our priorities right and we believe that of the
\nthree fundamental issues we campaigned on \u2013 security, the economy and
\nfighting corruption-, we have remained very relevant and Nigerians believe
\nwe have achieved something,” the President said.<\/p>\n
President Buhari also used the occasion to appreciate the People\u2019s
\nRepublic of China for financing some of the rail and power projects in the
\ncountry through concessionary loans.<\/p>\n
”I will do my best to see that where there are possibilities of making a
\nquick improvement on infrastructure, we will do it,” he said.
\nPresident Buhari also appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to
\nconsider what this government inherited and the more it is doing with
\nfewer resources in putting the economy right.<\/p>\n
The President took note of some concerns raised by the retired Ambassadors
\nincluding an appeal for the adjustment of their pension entitlements,
\nretention of diplomatic passport for retired career ambassadors,
\nallocation of land for ARCAN headquarters in Abuja and adequate funding of
\nthe Foreign Affairs ministry, among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
