The Secretariat of the CUPP has raised alarm over the current clampdown on
\nopposition figures by the Federal Government using various state
\ninstitutions.\u00a0 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secretly
\narrested Mr. Tunde Ayeni, the former Chairman of Skye Bank and a close
\nally of the consensus opposition candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.<\/p>\n
Information reaching the opposition secretariat also include the facts
\nthat Mr. Ayeni has been poisoned and rushed to a yet to be disclosed
\nmedical facility for treatment.
\nWe demand immediate release of Mr. Tunde Ayeni from EFCC custody to his
\nfamily for proper medical attention and that the case against him should
\nbe charged to court immediately if indeed there is anything found against
\nhim. This attitude towards the friends, supporters and allies of Alhaji
\nAtiku Abubakar is condemnable, despotic, undemocratic and must be stopped
\nwithout any further delay. We categorically warn that nothing should
\nhappen to Mr. Tunde Ayeni to silence him so that the truth of how the
\nfamily and cronies of President Buhari acquired Skye Bank will not
\neventually be known by Nigerians.
\nIf the EFCC Chairman in his usual over-zealousness to please the President
\nhas begun the government agenda of also stuffing Nigerians into body bags,
\nthen the international community is hereby called upon to place him on
\nclose and careful watch and list his name for possible prosecution for
\ncrimes against humanity. Mr. Ayeni is a political prisoner. His continued
\ndetention will eternally bug the conscience of his oppressors.
\nThe country is also put on the notice that the EFCC has been handed down a
\nlist of 45 opposition leaders to invite, arrest, detain and restrain
\nbefore the opening of polls on 16th February. The list includes names
\nAlhaji Sule Lamido, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Hon. Luke Onofiok,Saraki,
\nChidoka,Ikenga Imo ugochinyere,Chief Achike Udenwa, Alhaji Attahiru
\nBafarawa, Mr. Abba Moro, Hon. Gabriel Suswam, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema and a
\nhost of others. All this intimidation will not help a President who has
\nbeen rejected by the people. Arrest everybody, put us all in body bags,
\nbut Nigerians have a date with destiny on 16th February to reclaim our
\ncountry and get it working again.<\/p>\n
