identifying ghost employees from the federal government\u2019s payroll.<\/p>\n

The president revealed this in a special write-up entitled; \u201cCorruption
\nthreats Nigeria and its election\u2019\u2019 which he released in Abuja on Sunday.<\/p>\n

He said more ghost workers would be removed.<\/p>\n

Mr Buhari also expressed optimism that more money could be recovered
\nthrough the whistle-blower policy as over 370 million dollars had been
\nreturned since its launch in 2016.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore ghost workers must be removed from government payroll (almost $550
\nmillion has been saved from identifying phantom employees),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore can be recovered through our whistle-blower policy ($370 million has
\nbeen returned since its launch in 2016).
\n\u201cMore is still to come. But, together, we shall prevail over corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n

He, therefore, enjoined Nigerians, particularly the electorate to make a
\nwise choice in the forthcoming presidential election by way of re-electing
\nthe governing All Progressives Congress to sustain and improve on the
\nongoing crusade on corruption.<\/p>\n

He reassured that due process would continue to be followed in the fight
\nagainst corruption even though his administration had changed the way of
\ntackling corruption in the country.<\/p>\n

The president added: \u201cA Yoruba proverb states that only the patient one
\ncan milk a lion. Likewise, victory over corruption is difficult, but not
\nimpossible. We must not flounder in our resolve. I know many Nigerians
\nwould like to see faster action. So do I.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut so too must we follow due process and exercise restraint, ensuring
\nallegation never takes the place of evidence. For that is not the Nigeria
\nwe should wish to build.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no doubt that this Administration has changed the way we tackle
\ncorruption.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe choice before voters is this: Do we continue forward on this testing
\npath against corruption? Or do revert to the past, resigned to the
\nfalsehood that it is just the-way-things-are-done? Or that it is just too
\ndifficult \u2013 too pervasive \u2013 to fix? I know which one I would choose. It is
\nwhy I am asking Nigerians for another four years to serve them.\u2019\u2019
\nHe also vowed that as Nigerian leader he would continue to judiciously
\nexercise the trust vested in him to combat the problems of corruption,
\ninsecurity and an inequitable economy.<\/p>\n

The president, however, stated that the fight against corruption would
\ncontinue to attract greater attention so as to ensure the success of all
\nother socio-economic programmes of the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll are important. But amongst them, one stands above the others as both
\na cause and aggravator of the rest. It is, of course, corruption.<\/p>\n

\u201cA policy programme that does not have fighting corruption at its core is
\ndestined to fail.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe battle against graft must be the base on which we secure the country,
\nbuild our economy, provide decent infrastructure and educate the next
\ngeneration,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
