{"id":64652,"date":"2019-02-10T18:17:05","date_gmt":"2019-02-10T17:17:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=64652"},"modified":"2019-02-10T18:17:05","modified_gmt":"2019-02-10T17:17:05","slug":"we-did-not-poison-tunde-ayeni-efcc-declares","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/we-did-not-poison-tunde-ayeni-efcc-declares\/","title":{"rendered":"We Did Not Poison Tunde Ayeni, EFCC Declares"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m-3514351662211714719\" class=\"mail-message \">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"m5642572023551901121\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied an<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">allegation that its operatives poisoned the Chairman of the defunct Skye<br \/>\nBank, Tunde Ayeni.<\/p>\n<p>A statement by the commission\u2019s acting spokesman, Tony Orilade, in Abuja<br \/>\non Saturday dismissed the allegation as a \u201cfalse alarm is to incite public<br \/>\nopinion against the EFCC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe attention of the EFCC has been drawn to a report in Thisday newspaper<br \/>\nof Saturday, February 9 with the headline: \u201cEFCC Has Poisoned Tunde Ayeni<br \/>\nin Custody, Allege Opposition Parties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe report according to the author, followed a press release issued on<br \/>\nFriday, February 8, in Abuja by the spokesman of the Coalition of United<br \/>\nPolitical Parties (CUPP) CUPP, Mr Ikenga Ugochinyere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUgochinyere claimed that a credible source revealed to him that Ayeni was<br \/>\ncurrently undergoing treatment \u201cin an undisclosed medical facility after<br \/>\nhe was poisoned in the detention cell of the EFCC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe found it compelling to state in no unclear terms that Ayeni upon<br \/>\narrest and conveyance to the commission was neither offered food nor drink<br \/>\nby our operatives.<br \/>\n\u201cThere was also nothing consumable: food, drink or water that was brought<br \/>\nto him within the brief period he was with his interrogators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he complained of illness and opted to see a doctor, he was promptly<br \/>\nobliged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also wish to state that so far, there has not been any report of any<br \/>\ndire health condition on Ayeni and it\u2019s likely there would not be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe public may wish to know that the commission in the course of its<br \/>\nduties has become conversant with all manners of theatrics from some<br \/>\nsuspects who would elect not to cooperate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is also our desire to inform CUPP that as a commission, we follow due<br \/>\nprocess, and that we are a law-abiding entity and as such, will not keep<br \/>\nAyeni longer than required by law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also give our word that he will have his day in court as and when due.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, therefore, wish to clarify that Ayeni has allegations of corruption<br \/>\nto thrash out with us.
