The All Progressives Congress APC has accused Ogun state Governor,
\nIbikunle Amosun of sponsoring thugs to pelt President Muhammadu Buhari and
\nother dignitaries during its campaign rally in Abeokuta on Monday.<\/p>\n
This was as the party asked its supporters to vote for only its
\ncandidates, a departure from the Presidential admonition to them to vote
\ncandidates of their point n choosing during the elections.<\/p>\n
President Muhammadu Buhari had at the Monday rally, in an apparent attempt
\nto calm frayed nerves told the supporters at the rally to follow their
\nhearts, saying it was within their democratic rights to so do.<\/p>\n
\u201cI advise you to practice your civic right come next Saturday, and on the
\n2nd of March to choose whoever you like across the parties. This is your
\nright, so there is no problem about it, I have no problem about it, and
\nyou shouldn\u2019t have problems about it\u201d, the president had said, deviating
\nfrom the tradition of canvassing support for all candidates of the party,
\nbeing its chief campaigner.<\/p>\n
However, the party hierarchy yesterday differed with him, telling its
\nsupporters to vite for \u201call and only\u201d APC candidates.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge our teeming party supporters and members not to be disturbed by
\nMonday\u2019s condemnable incident. We urge all to continue trooping out
\nenmasse for our remaining campaigns and vote massively for all and only
\nAPC candidates in the forthcoming general elections\u201d, it stated.<\/p>\n
The party in a strongly worded statement by its spokesman, Mallam Lanre
\nIssa-Onilu said Gov. Amosun would be punished after the general elections.
\nThe party was however silent on the kind of punishment to be meted on the
\ngovernor.<\/p>\n
The statement said; \u201cThe All Progressives Congress (APC) regrets Monday\u2019s
\npremeditated attacks sponsored by Governor Ibikunle Amosun on President
\nMuhammadu Buhari and other senior party leaders at the venue of the
\npresidential campaign rally in Ogun State\u201d. It described the incident as
\none act of indiscipline too many.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe APC will not condone acts of indiscipline, indiscretion and
\nanti-party activities from any party member no matter how highly placed\u201d,
\nthe party added. The statement further reads;<\/p>\n
\u201cThe party will review this gross misconduct of deliberately positioning
\nthugs to attack and embarrass the President and the party\u2019s leadership.
\nThe party will take a decision on this matter immediately after the
\nelections.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt must be stated that party supremacy and discipline according to our
\nconstitution are not matters of choice but binding principles which must
\nbe adhered to by all party members.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe APC is a party known for discipline, justice, fairness and equality
\nhence any plan to destroy what this party stands for would be rejected. No
\nsingle person will be allowed to put his personal and selfish interests
\nahead of the wishes of the people of Ogun state and elsewhere.<\/p>\n
\u201cPost primaries, the decision of the National Working Committee to uphold
\nthe wishes of party members is unbendable. Therefore, whatever means being
\npresently deployed by persons intending to undermine the wishes of the
\npeople for personal gains will not be tolerated\u201d, the APC added.<\/p>\n
