\nThe Governor of Bayelsa State, the Honorable Henry Seriake Dickson, has
\ndebunked the claim by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Sen. Heineken
\nLokpobiri, that the Bayelsa International Airport was built at cost of
\nN120 billion.<\/p>\n

Governor Dickson said that it was most unexpected of a person of the
\nstatus of a minister of the Federal Republic to feed the President and the
\nNigerian public with false Information inspired by bitterness.<\/p>\n

Dickson said in a statement by his Special Adviser to the Governor on
\nMedia Relations, Mr. Fidelis Soriwei, that the Bayelsa Airport was built
\nat a cost of N60 billion and not some imagined figures being dangled by
\nLokpobiri.<\/p>\n

He said that the contract for the Airport was executed by Dantata and
\nSawoe, a Nigerian firm which could be contacted for the contractual sum.<\/p>\n

The Governor said that while it would have been proper to ignore Lokpobiri
\nand the imagined figures he dished out to the President and other
\nNigerians during the APC Presidential rally in Yenagoa, it was important
\nto put the records straight and to spare the society from the mischief of
\nmisinformation.<\/p>\n

Dickson also faulted the claim by Lokpobiri that the Airport was a
\nseasonal facility which was affected by the last flood in the country.<\/p>\n

He said that the airport equipped with the most standard and longest
\nrunaway in the country was built with the 2012 flood which devastated
\nparts of the country in mind.<\/p>\n

He said that the claim by Lokpobiri that the airport was flooded last
\nyears was a failed attempt to discredit the achievements of the
\nRestoration Government led by Dickson.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cThe Minister of State for Agriculture, Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri,
\ntold President Muhammadu Buhari and the Public that the Bayelsa
\nInternational Airport was built at a cost of N120 billion.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Minister went further to say that the airport is a seasonal airport
\nwhich was affected by the flood that ravaged Bayelsa and other parts of
\nNigeria in 2018.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would have been logical to ignore the claims of Lokpobiri as the
\nrantings of a politician on a mission to cause mischief through
\nmisinformation but for the need to set the records straight in the
\ninterest of the discerning public.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the records, the Bayelsa International Cargo Airport which is
\nscheduled to have its inaugural flight on Thursday was built at a cost of
\nN60 billion.<\/p>\n

\u201cLokpobiri\u2019s claim that the Airport which was built with a high runway
\nwith the 2012 flood in mind, was flooded in 2018, is even more shocking
\nand indeed gives insight into his brand of politics.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a fact beyond contestation that the Bayelsa International Airport
\nwas never flooded and therefore cannot be regarded as a seasonal airport
\nas claimed by Lokpobiri.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI call on Bayelsans and indeed all Nigerians to ignore the spurious
\nclaims being made by Lokpobiri about this celebrated feat in Bayelsa, the
\nIjaw nation and the nation\u2019s aviation sector.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
