Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the Minister
\nof Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and his cohorts in liaison
\nwith unpatriotic military and police officers have concluded plans to bomb
\nINEC offices, destroy voting materials at Registration Area Centres and
\ndisrupt\u00a0 the peaceful conduct of the general elections in the state.<\/p>\n

Governor\u00a0 Wike\u00a0 also declared Friday 15th February, 2019 as public holiday
\nfor Rivers people to\u00a0 pray for God’s intervention in ensuring that the
\nelections\u00a0 are peaceful.<\/p>\n

In a state broadcast on Thursday\u00a0 ahead of the general elections, Governor
\nWike\u00a0 said that credible\u00a0 intelligence\u00a0 revealed the unpatriotic\u00a0 plot of
\nthe Minister of Transportation.<\/p>\n

He said: “Credible intelligence\u00a0 has linked Rotimi Amaechi and his cohorts
\nin the factionalised APC to prevent the peaceful conduct of the general
\nelections in Rivers State with the support of some unpatriotic military
\nand police officers.<\/p>\n

“The security\u00a0 officers have been detailed to provide covert and over
\noperational covers for Rotimi Amaechi’s armed militants and thugs on
\nmilitary camouflage and fake police uniforms to bomb INEC Offices, cart
\naway or destroy voting materials\u00a0 at Registration Area Centres, and
\ndisrupt the voting processes across the state on a scale that will force
\nINEC to abruptly call off elections\u00a0 on the ground of insecurity “.<\/p>\n

The Governor\u00a0 said that several Hilux vehicles painted in military colours
\nand gunboats donated by the Executive Director (Technical) of the Nigerian
\nPorts Authority, Hon Sekonte Davies have been handed over to the militants
\nto carry out the illegal anti-democratic attacks across the state.<\/p>\n

While expressing\u00a0 worry on the needless threats of violence by the
\nDirector General of the APC\u00a0 Presidential Campaign Council at the party’s
\nlast Presidential Campaign\u00a0 Rally on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Governor
\nWike said the APC Internal Crisis was a fallout of the Amaechi’s love for
\nimpunity, arrogance and disdain for due process.<\/p>\n

“It is therefore most unfortunate that instead of using internal party
\nmechanisms\u00a0 to settle the festering crisis before it was too late, Rotimi
\nAmaechi chose to act with impunity and is now hunted by the unpleasant
\noutcomes of his arrogance and disdain for due process.<\/p>\n

“Even at that, the Supreme Court has spoken and the only rational path
\nleft for Rotimi Amaechi is to recognise the fact that Justice has
\nprevailed over impunity “.<\/p>\n

He advised him to be political matured enough to accept the consistent
\ndecisions of the courts in good faith, eat the humble pie, put his damaged
\npolitical enclave in order and wait for 2023 elections.<\/p>\n

The governor stated that Rivers State is peace and ready for the\u00a0 general
\nelections.\u00a0 He warned against any negative actions\u00a0 that will upset the
\npeace of the state and disrupt her economic\u00a0 processes which are key to
\nthe survival of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

He said: “I wish to therefore appeal to the conscience of Rotimi Amaechi,
\nas a brother and fellow compatriot, to stop stoking the drumbeats of
\nviolence and allow the prevailing\u00a0 peace to continue in our dear Rivers
\nState “.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike\u00a0 added: “At this point, let me remind us that these are
\nstrange and tempting times in our political experience that call for
\nutmost vigilance and maturity in our response to the willful provocations
\nfrom the APC and the security agencies, who are clearly working together
\non a well choreographed script to destabilize the State and prevent the
\ngeneral elections from holding in the State”.<\/p>\n

He called on Rivers people to remain peaceful remain peaceful and go about
\nwith their\u00a0 lawful activities and\u00a0 refrain from returning violence for
\nviolence despite the provocation<\/p>\n

The Governor called on the International Community to hold Amaechi and his
\nfaction of the APC responsible\u00a0 for any outbreak of violence\u00a0 during the
\nelections.<\/p>\n

He said: “May I call on the international community, particularly the
\nUnited Nations, the European Union, ECOWAS as well as the governments of
\nthe United States of America, United Kingdom and France to hold Rotimi
\nAmaechi, his cohorts in the factional APC and the compromised security
\nofficers responsible for any electoral and or related violence in Rivers
\nState during and after the general elections”.<\/p>\n

Governor\u00a0 Wike commiserated with the families\u00a0 of those who lost their
\nloved ones during the\u00a0 last APC Presidential Campaign Rally in Port
\nHarcourt.<\/p>\n

He said: “To lose 15 innocent and lively persons are deeply distressful
\nnot only to the immediate families but also to their communities and the
\nentire State. These are active and productive people who still have a lot
\nto offer to the wellbeing of their families and the progress of our State.<\/p>\n

“This sad situation calls for sober reflection and penitence, especially
\non the part of the APC, which brazen negligence in crowd control and at
\nthe facility was directly responsible for the tragic and irreversible loss
\nof these innocent souls to the cold hands of death”<\/p>\n

He thanked God for\u00a0 the violence free political campaign in the state and
\nprayed that the same will continue\u00a0 after the elections.<\/p>\n

“I wish to remind us once again, that we are one people with a common
\ndestiny. We may belong to different political parties but there is no
\nother State we can call our home, except Rivers State.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
