Following agitations from Political parties, the Independent National<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the resumption of political
\ncampaigns ahead of the rescheduled presidential and National Assembly
\nelections slated for February 23, 2019.According to a statement signed by Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and
\nChairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, issued on Monday,
\nINEC noted that the commission took the decision after reviewing its
\npreparations for the elections, as well as consultations with political
\nparties.<\/p>\n

The campaigns are expected to end officially by midnight on Thursday,
\nFebruary 21, 2019.<\/p>\n

The statement read: \u201cAfter consultations with political parties, the
\nCommission has approved that campaigns by parties and candidates can
\nresume forthwith and end by midnight of Thursday, 21st February, 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cMedia organisations are at liberty to accept, publish, broadcast and
\ncirculate campaign materials up till midnight of Thursday, 21st February,
\n2019. Political parties and their candidates are enjoined to abide by the
\nextant laws governing campaigns.\u201d<\/p>\n

The commission also thanked Nigerians for their understanding regarding
\nthe rescheduling of the elections, just as it appealed to stakeholders to
\nbe \u201cdispassionate and circumspect in their comments\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Commission is focusing on the elections to be held on 23rd February
\nand 9th March to ensure that they are free, fair and credible. We urge all
\nNigerians to participate fully in the elections, notwithstanding the
\ndisappointment,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

A press conference on the updated preparations of the commission is
\nscheduled for Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the International Conference
\nCentre in Abuja at 3pm.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
