{"id":64891,"date":"2019-02-18T21:09:46","date_gmt":"2019-02-18T20:09:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=64891"},"modified":"2019-02-18T21:09:46","modified_gmt":"2019-02-18T20:09:46","slug":"jonathan-charges-youths-on-peaceful-elections-warns-against-extra-judicial-killings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/jonathan-charges-youths-on-peaceful-elections-warns-against-extra-judicial-killings\/","title":{"rendered":"Jonathan charges youths on peaceful elections, warns against extra-judicial killings"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m8170570923829901495\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">\u00a0Former Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerian<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">youths to be peaceful and eschew violence all through the period of<br \/>\nscheduled general elections.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jonathan gave the advice on Monday when youth groups in the Niger<br \/>\nDelta led by the President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Barr.<br \/>\nPereotubo Oweilaemi paid him a courtesy visit at the Goodluck Jonathan<br \/>\nFoundation (GJF) Office in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cWithout peace there cannot be development in the society. If we<br \/>\nwant to develop Nigeria as leaders and citizens, then collectively we must<br \/>\nwork hard and make sacrifices that will bring peace to our country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we have conflicts, it creates a very negative impression in the<br \/>\nsociety and investors are very mindful of these impressions. The most<br \/>\nfundamental tool for building an economy of a nation is peace.<\/p>\n<p>The former President also charged security operatives to demonstrate their<br \/>\ngoodwill towards peaceful elections by desisting from extra-judicial<br \/>\nkillings.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cAnytime someone dies extra-judicially it reduces the integrity<br \/>\nof the country. So, if our security personnel are interested in peace,<br \/>\nespecially during this electioneering, then they must do everything to<br \/>\nsuppress extra-judicial killings; because when one person is killed<br \/>\nunlawfully, it affects everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking earlier on the purpose of the visit, the President of Ijaw Youth<br \/>\nCouncil (IYC), Comrade Peretubo Oweilaemi said that their visit was to<br \/>\nalign themselves with the peace philosophy of the Dr. Jonathan that<br \/>\n\u201cnobody\u2019s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian.<\/p>\n<p>Comrade Oweilaemi, in his speech said \u201cduring your time as President, you<br \/>\nemphasized that nobody\u2019s blood is worth your ambition. You didn\u2019t just say<br \/>\nit, but you live by it everywhere you go. You have always placed national<br \/>\ninterest above personal interest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Niger Delta is very peaceful today because of you and the role you<br \/>\nhave been playing in peacebuilding. We watch and follow every of your<br \/>\nfootstep and we can say we have become peace ambassadors because of your<br \/>\nconduct and mentorship on us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are also aware that in a state, it is very difficult to have a former<br \/>\nPresident, without him and the incumbent governor not having issues. But<br \/>\nin Bayelsa, we haven\u2019t heard about you and the Governor, Hon. Henry<br \/>\nSeriake Dickson having issues.
