Riverine Ijaw Communities have called on the International Community to
\nhold General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the Nigerian Army,
\nMajor General Jamil Sarham and the Commander State Anti-Robbery Squad
\n(SARS) ACP. Akin Victor Fakorede responsible for any violence\u00a0 during the
\nPresidential and National Assembly elections in Rivers State on Saturday.<\/p>\n

In a press conference\u00a0 on Wednesday\u00a0 in Port Harcourt, Leader of the
\nRiverine Ijaw Communities and Former Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Engr
\nTele Ikuru stated the\u00a0 two officers\u00a0 are working with the\u00a0 Minister\u00a0 of
\nTransportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to unleash violence\u00a0 on Rivers
\nState.<\/p>\n

The Press Conference\u00a0 was titled: “THE PLAN BY THE GENERAL OFFICER
\nCOMMANDING 6 DIVISION, NIGERIA ARMY, MAJOR GENERAL JAMIL SARHAM AND THE
\nCOMMANDER STATE ANTI-ROBBERY SQUAD (SARS) ACP. AKIN FAKOREDE TO RIG THE
\nGENEREAL ELECTIONS IN THE RIVERINE COMMUNITIES OF RIVERS STATE”.<\/p>\n

He said : “Confirmed reports also show that Major General Sarham and ACP
\nAkin Fakorede have penciled for arrest and detain the Council and Party
\nChairmen of all the eight Local Government Councils and other principal
\nPDP leaders in our communities until after the Presidential election.<\/p>\n

“ACP Akin Fakorede is not new to playing such ignoble roles in Rivers
\nState elections. He did it in 2016 against the PDP during the National and
\nState House of Assembly re-run elections and was accordingly indicted by
\nINEC for his criminal actions. ACP Akin Fakorede who was posted along with
\nothers for election duties to Bornu State has now been surreptitiously
\nreturned to Rivers State despite his infamous antecedent as an unrepentant
\nelection rigger.<\/p>\n

“As the facts have shown Major General Sarham and Mr. Akin Fakorede are
\nopenly sympathetic to the APC and pathologically biased against the PDP”.<\/p>\n

Engr Tele Ikuru added: “Indeed, we forced to conclude that they are
\ncard-carrying members of the APC and, therefore, are not and cannot be
\nexpected to be neutral in the discharge of election duties in which their
\nparty, the APC is directly involved<\/p>\n

“The fact that we are a peaceful people is not in doubt and we do not want
\nanything to upset the prevailing peace and sense of security in our
\ncommunities and Local Government Areas.<\/p>\n

“We are therefore happy with the promise by INEC to ensure that the 2019
\ngeneral elections are peaceful, free, fair and credible. But it is
\nbecoming increasingly difficult for us or anybody else to believe that
\nthis promise would stand with the evolving partisan disposition and
\ninvolvement of the military and the police in the administration of the
\nelections in Rivers State.<\/p>\n

“We are constrained therefore to call on the international community,
\nespecially the United States, Britain and the European Union to bring to
\nbear, maximum pressure on INEC and the Federal Government to allow
\npeaceful, free, fair and credible elections in our communities”.<\/p>\n

The Riverine Ijaw Communities said the\u00a0 purpose of the press conference is
\nto draw the attention of Nigerians and the international community to the
\nevolving plan by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the
\nNigerian Army Major General Jamil Sarham and the Commander State
\nAnti-Robbery Squad (SARS) ACP. Akin Victor Fakorede to destabilize, rig
\nand abort the peaceful conduct of the 2019 elections in the riverine
\ncommunities of Rivers State.<\/p>\n

He said: ”\u00a0 As we all know the Presidential and National Assembly
\nelections have been rescheduled to take place nationwide on the 23rd of
\nFebruary 2019 while the 9th of March 2019 is for the Governorship and
\nState House of Assembly elections.<\/p>\n

“The All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government and the Independent
\nNational Electoral Commission (INEC) have repeatedly promised to ensure
\nthat these elections peaceful will be free, fair and credible.<\/p>\n

“However, while we are committed to the success of these elections, some
\nsenior security officers, particularly, the above named duo are
\nconstituting serious stumbling block to the realization of this exercise
\nin our riverine communities of Rivers State. As security officers we
\nexpected General Sarham and Mr. Akin Fakorede to be neutral, honest and
\nfair in the discharge of their election duties to the nation.<\/p>\n

“This is not the case as both men have profoundly signed on to the
\nevolving plan by the Amaechi-led APC to destabilize, rig and scuttle the
\npeaceful conduct of the elections”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
