The INEC Electoral Officer of Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers
\nState, Mr Leo Okon has stated that soldiers of the Nigerian Army invaded
\nINEC office in Okrika and snatched results of the Presidential\u00a0 and
\nNational Assembly elections for the Local Government Area.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Rivers East Senatorial District Collation Centre on
\nMonday, the Okrika Local Government Area Electoral Officer said that the
\ninvading soldiers were led by one Captain Inuwa.<\/p>\n
He regretted\u00a0 that prior to snatching the entire results, the soldiers
\nfrightened the collation officials\u00a0 through massive shootings and
\nviolence.<\/p>\n
According to him, the Collation Officers moved to the INEC\u00a0 office
\nbecause of\u00a0 widespread violence on Election Day.<\/p>\n
He stated that earlier on Election Day, some security personnel\u00a0 snatched
\nelection materials for some wards. He listed\u00a0 the affected wards. However,
\nhe said elections held in\u00a0 all the other wards.<\/p>\n
Leo Okon\u00a0 said: “I am here to present a report on the elections\u00a0 for the
\nPresidential and National Assembly elections for Okrika Local Government
\nArea. We actually deployed men and materials\u00a0 for the elections.\u00a0 It will
\ninterest you to know that materials for ward 6, 7, 8, 9 were going to the
\nsuper RAC centre, I was informed that the materials were diverted to an
\nunknown destination.<\/p>\n
“Every other ward went successfully\u00a0 to he polling units.\u00a0 Elections\u00a0 were
\nheld. At the end of polls, there were heavy gunshots.\u00a0 Poll officials
\ncould not collate form EC 8a at the polling units.\u00a0 They opted to come to
\nINEC office at Okrika for solace and to continue filling form EC 8a.<\/p>\n
“At the collation\u00a0 \u00a0for ward level, a military\u00a0 team of soldiers led by
\none Captain Inuwa\u00a0 came and ordered the suspension\u00a0 of collation.\u00a0 He
\nordered\u00a0 his men to do away with every other material, including the
\nresults being collated by the collation officials.\u00a0 The materials\u00a0 were
\ncarted away with nothing left for me to present as an evidence for this
\nelection.\u00a0 As I speak with you, I have no record or results to present for
\ncollation at this collation centre “.<\/p>\n
