The Rivers\u00a0 State Deputy Governorship\u00a0 Candidate of the Social Democratic
\nParty (SDP), Christopher Udume has defected to the Peoples Democratic
\nParty (PDP), declaring support\u00a0 for the re-election of Governor Nyesom
\nEzenwo Wike.<\/p>\n
The SDP Deputy Governorship Candidate defected with 98 percent of the
\nRivers State SDP Executive Committee and some party chairmen from the
\nLocal Government Areas.<\/p>\n
Speaking\u00a0 during a\u00a0 defection meeting at the Rivers State PDP Campaign
\nOffice on Thursday\u00a0 in Port Harcourt,\u00a0 Udume said they were defecting to
\nthe PDP\u00a0 to assist Governor Wike secure his re-election.<\/p>\n
He said: “On behalf of myself and supporters of the SDP,\u00a0 we wish to join
\nthe PDP. We are bold to say that you deserve to continue with your good
\nworks.<\/p>\n
“We are here to say, re-elect Wike again. Your great works are there for
\nall to see and we are therefore\u00a0 committed to ensuring\u00a0 that you get a
\nsecond term”.<\/p>\n
He stated that the new PDP entrants will work with Senator-elect for
\nRivers South-east,\u00a0 Bari Mpigi to ensure the total success of the party.<\/p>\n
State Publicity Secretary of SDP, Inime Righteous said that the party has
\ncome to identify\u00a0 with a success story. He said that they are motivated
\nbecause evidence\u00a0 abounds on the achievements of the Governor.<\/p>\n
Financial Secretary of the SDP , Adol Ibeka said that the leadership\u00a0 of
\nSDP has moved specifically\u00a0 to deliver\u00a0 Governor Wike during the 2019
\nGovernorship election.<\/p>\n
Secretary of SDP, Cotterell Tumbodiaa said that the second\u00a0 term of the
\ngovernor is guaranteed.<\/p>\n
Responding, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike said that his
\nre-election\u00a0 has been secured by God and the good people of Rivers State.<\/p>\n
He said that with the defection of the SDP Deputy Governorship Candidate
\nof SDP, the party no longer\u00a0 has a Governorship Candidate because of the
\nconstitutional\u00a0 requirement for\u00a0 election.<\/p>\n
“God in his infinite mercies has given us victory.\u00a0 Nobody born of a woman
\ncan stop us from victory.\u00a0 It doesn’t matter the gunboats or armoured
\npersonnel carriers,\u00a0 God is with us.<\/p>\n
“Anybody can plan against us, but you are planning\u00a0 against God. I cannot
\nbe afraid\u00a0 of any man because He\u00a0 who is\u00a0 with\u00a0 us, is greater than them
\n“, he said.<\/p>\n
The governor said all the schemes against elections\u00a0 in\u00a0 Rivers State
\nwill fail because\u00a0 the state is PDP.<\/p>\n
Governor Wike\u00a0 thanked the former\u00a0 leaders of SDP in Rivers\u00a0 State\u00a0 for
\ncommitting to peaceful elections in Rivers State. He urged other leaders
\nto abandon\u00a0 negative destructive tendencies\u00a0 and join in the development
\nof the State.<\/p>\n
The Governor said though enemies of the state are not sleeping,\u00a0 they will
\ncontinue\u00a0 to fail.<\/p>\n
“Enemies of the state are not sleeping, but no power can bring this state
\ndown. God is working for this state. What\u00a0 you have done\u00a0 is in the
\ninterest of the State”.<\/p>\n
