Free Lagos Movement, a nascent group in Lagos has accused a National
\nLeader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu
\nof positioning his son, Seyi, to become Governor of Lagos State in 2023.<\/p>\n

The group also accused Tinubu of placing his relatives in key positions in
\nthe state, noting that the APC leader has turned Lagos to his \u201cpersonal
\ncottage\u201d.<\/p>\n

This was contained in an address delivered by Comrade Mark Adebayo, at a
\n\u2018World Press Conference\u2019 addressed at The Airport Hotel, Ikeja, on
\nThursday.<\/p>\n

The group stressed that its demand were premised on ensuring \u201ca Lagos that
\nis free from stunted economic growth occasioned by monumental corruption
\nand social manipulation of the people; a free Lagos that will embrace in
\nall its ramifications the tenets of good governance in public sector,
\ntransparency,\u00a0 accountability,\u00a0 fairness and ethnic cohesion.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cToday, the reality on ground\u00a0 is that the Centre of Excellence,
\nthe economic capital of Nigeria and indeed the fifth largest economy in
\nAfrica has been held captive and brazenly been manipulated by a group of
\npower cabal (led by a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed
\nTinubu), for their selfish interests rather than the public good.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is still baffling to the majority of Nigerians, how Lagos State has
\nended up becoming a personal cottage industry of one individual, who
\nsolely determines the fate and destiny of about twenty million people. For
\nalmost twenty years now, Lagos has become his fiefdom, with trails of
\npersonal aggrandisement, staggering corruption and virtual enslavement.\u201d<\/p>\n

The group went on to list how Tinubu has allegedly continued to entrench
\nhimself in the state by placing his people in key positions in the state,
\namong other actions, as follows:<\/p>\n

1. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was Governor for eight years but has
\ncontinued to govern by proxy till date;<\/p>\n

2. His wife has been Senator for eight years and still going for the third
\nterm now;<\/p>\n

3. The incumbent Commissioner for Women Affair in Lagos State, Mrs Lola
\nAkande, a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, is Tinubu’s
\nsister-in-law;<\/p>\n

4. Hon. Sunkanmi, the current member of Lagos House of Assembly
\nrepresenting Ikeja, is Tinubu’s nephew. He actually succeeded Mrs Lola
\nAkande;<\/p>\n

5. Sade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja General of Lagos and Nigeria, is Tinubu’s
\ndaughter;<\/p>\n

6. Her husband, Mr Oja, was a member, House of Representatives,
\nrepresenting Ekiti State;<\/p>\n

7. Seyi Tinubu, one of Tinubu’s children, was appointed as the emergency
\nfinancial consultant to all parastatals and local governments in Lagos
\nState. His convoy is said to rival that of a state Governor, and he’s been
\npositioned to take over as Governor of Lagos State in 2023, while his
\nfather Bola Ahmed Tinubu is unrepentant of his own ambition of becoming
\nthe President of Nigeria in 2023;<\/p>\n

8. Akeem Muri-Okunola, who recently was imposed as the Head of Service
\nagainst all civil service rules, is Tinubu’s friend’s son. He was Tinubu’s
\nPersonal Assistant when he was the Governor;<\/p>\n

9. The incumbent Commissioner for Establishment, Akinola Benson, was
\nTinubu’s Personal Assistant;<\/p>\n

10. The Incumbent Commissioner for Health (a three-term Commissioner),
\nJide Idris, is Tinubu’s Cousin;<\/p>\n

11. The incumbent chairman of the Oshodi Local Government, Bolaji Ariyo,
\nwas also Tinubu’s Personal Assistant;<\/p>\n

12. The incumbent Commissioner for Housing (a two-term Commissioner),
\nGbolahan Lawal, was ADC to Bola Tinubu;<\/p>\n

13. OANDO supplies all the fuel being used by the BRT buses in Lagos and
\nWale Tinubu, the CEO of Oando is Tinubu’s younger brother;<\/p>\n

14. A pseudo-company called Alpha Beta, collects at lead 10% of the
\nrevenues accruing to Lagos State, running into hundreds of billions of
\nNaira in fees in the 15 years for doing practically nothing. The state
\nstill pays the Lagos inland Revenue Services (LIRS) another 10% as
\nadministrative fees to collect same revenue;<\/p>\n

15. The landed property of Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikosi campus, was
\nconverted into private property, for the establishment of a television
\nstation (TVC), owned by Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n

The group went on to accuse Tinubu of various corruption-related practices.<\/p>\n

The statement continued: \u201cTo put it in proper perspective and further
\ndrive home our point, an estimated figure of over N7trillion has been lost
\nto corrupt practices on a total expenditure of about N7trillion by the
\nLagos State government in the last 20 years. The financial resource could
\nhave been invested in critical infrastructure like the Fourth Mainland
\nBridge, Lagos, International Airport in Epe, bridges along the Lekki
\ncorridor to eliminate traffic congestion, modern hospitals and schools in
\nall local governments.\u201d<\/p>\n

The APC leader was also accused of vote buying in the events leading up to
\nthe presidential and National Assembly elections, as well as plans to rig
\nthe governorship elections through voter intimidation and harassment.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this juncture, we will like to emphasize the arrogance and impunity
\nthat has become the trademark of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had claimed to be
\nricher than some states in Nigeria. On the eve of the presidential
\nelection, viral pictures on social media showed two bullion vans driving
\ninto Tinubu’s residence. The Money Laundering Prohibition Act stated that
\nno person or corporate body shall make or accept cash payment of sum
\nexceeding N500,000 or its equivalent in the case of individuals, while in
\nthe case of corporate bodies that amount is N2,000,000,\u00a0 the transaction
\nis done through a financial institution.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe therefore call on the relevant authorities to conduct full
\ninvestigation into this flagrant violation of the laws of our land by this
\nindividual who now parades himself as “uncountable”. In fact, the much
\ntouted anti-corruption fight of President Buhari will amount to nothing if
\ngrave corruption allegations are conveniently ignored.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo sustain his vice grip on power, he has resorted to the use of thugs
\nto intimidate and unleash violence on non-indigenes residing in Lagos, and
\ncontributing to the gross domestic product of the state on account of
\nexercising their right to freely vote for parties and candidates of their
\nchoice. This was partly responsible for the low turnout (less than 25%) of
\nregistered voters for the presidential election of February 23rd, 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a major threat to our democracy, which must be nipped in the bud.
\nWe, therefore, call for immediate arrest and prosecution of the culprits
\nand their sponsors, as deterrence to others. Unfortunately, the trend of
\nharassment has continued unabated even after the elections of February 23.
\nThe business activities of the Igbos in Oshodi, Mushin, Lagos Island and
\nother areas are being disrupted ahead of the gubernatorial elections
\nscheduled for March 9, 2019. The activities of these men are the types
\nthat have caused genocide in different parts of the world. They must be
\ncalled to order before they cause major conflagration between the various
\nethnic groups who have who have lived peacefully together in Lagos for
\ncenturies. We, therefore, call the attention of the Federal Government and
\ninternational community, especially the International Criminal Court to
\nthe dangerous pre-genocidal activities of agents of the former Governor of
\nLagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu, his chief thug, Mr. MC Oluomo, and his
\narmy of thugs against fellow Nigerians from the South-East and South-South
\nliving in Lagos.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the record, our movement is not political. It is not about selfish
\nambitions.
\nIt transcends gender, tribalism or religion, with members spread across
\nall the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in
\nLagos, where we have coordinators. We have also set up a high powered
\nlegal support committee, made up of eminent lawyers, who will provide
\nnecessary services to members of our movement during the course of this
\nstruggle.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe remain resolute in our quest for justice, equity, fairness, and a free
\nLagos, where opportunities are equally available to all. We demand for an
\negalitarian Lagos, with the highest ideals of democracy, economic
\nprosperity, modernization, wealth and freedom. We also demand for the
\nprotection of voters from harassment and violence before, during and after
\nthe elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
