The United Bank for Africa (UBA) last week officially launched a new UBA
\nfranchise in the United Kingdom (UK), the global financial city of London.
\nThis is coming three weeks after the group, launched its operations in
\nMali.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe enhancement of our business in the United Kingdom is very timely and
\nmutually beneficial for African and European corporate as well as
\nrespective governments. With the British and other European governments
\nseeking new and improved measures to grow trade relations with Africa, we
\nare enthusiastic on our positioning and capabilities in supporting
\ncorporate and government institutions to fulfill these lofty aspirations,
\nwhich we believe are pertinent for the sustainable growth of both
\ncontinents,\u201d Tony Elumelu, the bank\u2019s chairman said at the launch.<\/p>\n

With this launch, UBA Group further consolidates its unique positioning as
\nthe first and only Sub-Saharan African financial institution with banking
\noperations in both the United Kingdom and the United States, thus
\nreinforcing its strong franchise as Africa\u2019s Global Bank, facilitating
\ntrade and capital flows between Africa and the world.<\/p>\n

Elumelu said the Group is excited by the authorization of the relevant
\nregulatory authorities in the United Kingdom for UBA to upgrade its
\noperation and further fulfil its aspiration of deepening trade and
\ninvestments flows between Africa and Europe.<\/p>\n

Also speaking at the event, Group Managing Director\/CEO,\u00a0 Kennedy
\nUzoka,said: \u201cUBA Group is the most efficient gateway for European
\ncorporates and institutions to access Africa, given the bank\u2019s expansive
\nnetwork across most impact markets on the continent and its deep knowledge
\nof the business terrains in Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cSimultaneously, we are serving the trade and capital needs of our African
\ncustomers, who are seeking exposure to the European markets. With the
\nupgrade of UBA UK Limited, we are excited to deepen our support to
\nexisting customers whilst also providing the leverage for new customers to
\neffectively fulfil their cross-border transactions through UBA Group\u2019s
\nnetwork.\u201d Patrick Gutmann, the UK\u2019s branch\u2019s CEO said:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are now on a stronger footing, as the authorization of the PRA and FCA
\nfor an enhanced business model affords us the opportunity to swell our
\ncapital and balance sheet as well as the broader UBA Group\u2019s network
\nacross Africa. We welcome our existing and new customers to this new world
\nof borderless opportunities, as we creatively serve our customers in
\nmeeting their international transaction needs.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the upscale ceremony which held at The Prestigious Shard in the city of
\nLondon, were President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; President,
\nAfreximbank, Dr. Benedict Oramah; Former Prime Minister of Pakistan,\u00a0 H.E
\nShaukat Aziz; Member of the British House of Lords and Executive Committee
