The People\u2019s Democratic Party\u2019s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar,
\nhas filed for access to all INEC materials used to conduct the
\npresidential election before the tribunal.<\/p>\n
Atiku and PDP filed the ex-Parte application before the Presidential
\nelection petition tribunal seated at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.<\/p>\n
The motion filed by the PDP candidate and the party seeks to get
\npermission to the database of the smartcard readers and all the election
\nmaterials for audit.<\/p>\n
The PDP presidential candidate in the February 23 election, lost to the
\nincumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress
\n(APC).<\/p>\n
After the result of the presidential election was announced, Atiku called
\nthe election a sham and rejected the result and said he will challenge it
\nin court.<\/p>\n
Atiku decried the militarization of the electoral process, the
\n\u2018statistical impossibility\u2019 of states ravaged by the war on terror
\ngenerating much higher voter turnouts than peaceful states, and the
\nsuppressed votes in PDP strongholds.<\/p>\n
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, the former
\nvice president lost the election with more than a three million vote
\nmargin.<\/p>\n
Atiku claimed he would have called the victor within seconds of his being
\naware of his opponent\u2019s victory if he had lost in a free and fair
\nelection.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson of the APC presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo,
\nsaid the Atiku has a right to head to court and that the APC is anxious to
\nmeet Atiku in court.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur official position is that we believe that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has a
\nconstitutional right to seek redress in court and we do not seek in any
\nway to curtail that right.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn fact, it is the resort to court that is the only democratic way to
\nventilate his perceived grievance and any attempt to restrict or
\ndiscourage the exercise of such right would be an invitation to anarchy,\u201d
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn addition, we are very anxious to meet Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in court
\nin order to show the world in a conclusive manner the free and fair nature
\nof the comprehensive defeat of Atiku at the polls. An election is not
\ntermed \u2018rigged\u2019 only by the mere claim of it by the loser. That is what
\nAtiku and the PDP want to ram down our throats.\u201d<\/p>\n
