President Muhammadu Buhari has described former President Olusegun
\nObasanjo as “a passionate and great patriot who deserves accolades for his
\nimmeasurable contributions to our democracy and national unity.”<\/p>\n

In a statement to mark Obasanjo’s 82nd birthday anniversary, President
\nBuhari acknowledged that “regardless of our political differences with
\nObasanjo, I still hold him in the highest esteem because his contributions
\nto the development of the country overshadow those differences.”<\/p>\n

He said, “Chief Obasanjo gave a good account of himself and inspired his
\njuniors with his wit and other leadership skills.”<\/p>\n

According to Buhari, “Nigeria’s successful transition to democratic rule
\nin October 1979 was one of Obasanjo’s remarkable contributions to national
\ndevelopment.”<\/p>\n

“As he celebrates his 82nd Birthday Anniversary, I wish Chief Obasanjo
\nmore good health, knowledge and wisdom in the service of Nigeria and
\nhumanity”, President Buhari said.<\/p>\n
