…Urges Army to form a political party<\/p>\n

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives
\nCongress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has enjoined the Chief of Army Staff,
\nLt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, to\u00a0 publicly apologize to him, saying that the
\nmilitary’s indictment by the Independent National Electoral Commission
\n(INEC) over its disruptive role in the Governorship and State Assembly
\nelections in Rivers State has vindicated him.<\/p>\n

In his reaction to a statement released by the INEC on Saturday in Abuja –
\nwhere the electoral body expressed displeasure over the role played by
\narmed military personnel during the Rivers state governorship election,
\nFrank said he had been vindicated.<\/p>\n

The former APC\u2019s deputy national spokesman said he had raised the alarm
\nand called on the military authorities to be neutral before the election,
\nadding that instead of the security agency to heed his call, “Buratai and
\nhis co-politicians in military uniform disregarded it and tagged him as a
\n\u201cProtagonist of Fake News.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the INEC’s statement on the Rivers State gubernatorial
\nelection: “Collation centers were invaded by some soldiers and armed gangs
\nresulting in the intimidation and unlawful arrest of election officials
\nthereby disrupting the collation process.”<\/p>\n

Recall that Timi Frank had issued a statement exposing plans by the APC\u2019s
\ngovernment to militarize the Rivers State governorship election but was
\ndenied in some quarters.<\/p>\n

While describing the military’s involvement in the 2019 general elections
\nas shameful, Frank said if the likes of Buratai and his cohorts are tired
\nof wearing military uniforms “they should form a political party or
\npublicly register as a department under the APC.”<\/p>\n

The political activist challenged the military to name just one country in
\nAfrica or the entire world where their colleagues have brazenly taken
\nsides during elections “like what Nigeria witnessed in both the
\npresidential, National Assembly and governorship elections?<\/p>\n

“In 2015, there was no reported case of an active involvement of military
\npersonnel during the general elections. Although, that was the last time
\nNigeria had a civilian President who had respect for democracy and the
\nrule of law.<\/p>\n

“Therefore, the honest declaration by the INEC regarding the involvement
\nof military under Buratai in the Rivers State governorship election is a
\nshame and I deserve apology from the Nigerian Army for tagging me as a
\n\u201cProtagonist of Fake News.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Evil, they say, can only succeed when good people refuse to talk. As far
\nas Nigeria is concerned, I and other like-minds shall not be intimidated
\nor forced into a conspiracy of silence in the face of oppression – which
\nthe Nigerian military under Buratai is reputed for,” Frank stated.<\/p>\n

He called on the International Criminal Court (ICC), human rights
\norganizations and international community to take note of what he
\ndescribed as “a show of shame and wanton subversion of democracy by the
\nNigerian Army under Buratai.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
