{"id":65746,"date":"2019-03-24T14:04:58","date_gmt":"2019-03-24T13:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=65746"},"modified":"2019-03-24T14:04:58","modified_gmt":"2019-03-24T13:04:58","slug":"pdp-bala-mohammed-wins-bauchi-inec-withholding-announcement-over-court-order","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/pdp-bala-mohammed-wins-bauchi-inec-withholding-announcement-over-court-order\/","title":{"rendered":"PDP Bala Mohammed Wins Bauchi; INEC Withholding Announcement Over Court Order"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m1941267644348972609\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">Senator Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defeated<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">incumbent Governor Mohammed Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress<br \/>\n(APC) in the Bauchi State governorship race.<\/p>\n<p>But the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is witholding the<br \/>\nannouncement of the winner because of a Court order barring the<br \/>\nannouncement.<\/p>\n<p>Supplementary elections were conducted in 15 of 20 Local Government Areas<br \/>\n(LGAs) in the state, after the result for the March 9 governorship<br \/>\nelection was declared inconclusive by Professor Mohammed Kyari, the<br \/>\nReturning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)<br \/>\nin the state.<\/p>\n<p>At the previous count, PDP&#8217;s Bala Mohammed was leading with 469,512 votes<br \/>\nagainst APC&#8217;s Mohammed Abubakar, who polled 465,453 votes. The margin of<br \/>\ndifference was 4,059 votes.<\/p>\n<p>However, the election at Tafawa Balewa LGA was cancelled as a result of<br \/>\nthe disruption of the election by armed hoodlums, who invaded the<br \/>\ncollation centre and carted away result sheets.<\/p>\n<p>INEC had set up a committee to investigate the incident, after which it<br \/>\nreleased a report on March 15 noting that it had the duplicate and<br \/>\noriginal registration area results for the area in its custody. It then<br \/>\nscheduled March 19 for resumption of the collation process for Tafawa LGA.<\/p>\n<p>However, a court order resulting from a suit filed by APC had restricted<br \/>\nthe commission from continuing with the collation scheduled for March 19.<br \/>\nThe commission had, however, said the supplementary elections for the 15<br \/>\nother LGAs in the state would continue as scheduled on March 23, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The supplementary elections for the 15 other LGAs held as scheduled on<br \/>\nSaturday, March 23, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>At final supplementary election count on Sunday morning, Abubakar polled<br \/>\n5,117 votes and was defeated by the 6,376 votes secured by Bala Mohammed.<br \/>\nPDC came a distant third with 20 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Total valid votes for the 15 LGAs stood at 11,568.
