commissioned in May 2019 , Rivers State Governor,\u00a0 Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has
\nannounced.<\/p>\n

Speaking with journalists after projects inspection on Tuesday,\u00a0 Governor
\nWike said that the Academy would groom International football stars.<\/p>\n

The Governor said that the project will create talented soccer players and
\nmanpower that will positively impact the economy of the state.<\/p>\n

He said: “This project will be completed\u00a0 and commissioned\u00a0 before the end
\nof May this year.\u00a0 As you can see, the facilities are almost set.<\/p>\n

“This facility\u00a0 will create International\u00a0 soccer stars and develop the
\neconomy of the state”.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike said contrary\u00a0 to propaganda by the opposition,\u00a0 the Real
\nMadrid Football has been developed\u00a0 since it was initiated.<\/p>\n

“Already 12 coaches are already in training in Madrid to work at at the
\nAcademy.\u00a0 This academy will help the state”.<\/p>\n

He noted that so many soccer enthusiasts have applied for admission into
\nthe Academy.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike also inspected the cinemas at the Port Harcourt Pleasure
\nPark. The facility will be completed before May ending .<\/p>\n

“This\u00a0 cinema will develop\u00a0 tourism across the region.\u00a0 We will build\u00a0 a
\nfive star hotel in Pleasure Park “, he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

…Submits Petition to INEC, Others<\/p>\n

The African Action Congress, AAC governorship candidate in Rivers State,
\nEngr. Biokpomabo Awara has expressed disappointment over the purported
\nresignation of his running mate Akpo Bomba Yeeh and his reported defection
\nto the Peoples\u2019 Democratic Party PDP.<\/p>\n

Awara debunked claims by his erstwhile deputy candidate that the Minister
\nof Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the APC, had made
\nthem sign resignation letters.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, Tuesday, Awara dismissed all of the
\nallegations against the minister as false, stating that Amaechi and the
\nAPC offered him and his party unconditional support, owing to their shared
\nideology and love for Rivers State and Rivers people.<\/p>\n

He also dismissed his running mate’s \u2018compromising\u2019 actions as pathetic,
\nclaiming that he had himself been offered 3 billion naira to drop his
\nambition, but he rejected it and his deputy was aware.<\/p>\n

His words, \u201cWhen the story of his resignation first came out as a rumour,
\nthat Rivers State Governor have offered him 200m naira to abandon me, I
\nhad no reason to believe it because that Elder Yeeh was aware I had
\nearlier turned down an offer of N3b, Gov. Wike offered to me some days ago
\nthrough his associates. I discussed this with my running\u00a0 mate and
\noutlined why we must not succumb to the lure from the governor or any
\ninterest group. I was convinced that we were in agreement because he
\nneither expressed nor alluded to a difference in opinion on the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the rumour became rife by Sunday, I made several attempts to reach
\nmy deputy without success. I started developing some strange feelings
\npointing to a possible sell-out by him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am aware that a key component of their plot is to attempt to smear the
\ntowering image and figure of the Honourable Minister of Transportation Rt.
\nHon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. I want to state categorically that all the
\naccusations made by my running mate against the Honourable Minister are
\nblatant lies poorly crafted by his paymaster, Governor Wike and
\nassociates, and you could see how tough it was for him to read the script
\nhanded to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me be clear. I was never asked to and did not sign any letter of
\nresignation. I am aware that my deputy also was not asked to or signed any
\nletter of resignation. My deputy, Elder Akpo Bomba Yeeh is believed to be
\nunder tremendous financial pressure based on his statements.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe support the AAC got from the Honourable Minister and the APC was
\nunconditional. Those conditions my deputy alleged in the statement drafted
\nfor him by Governor Wike are false, crude lies. The alliance between AAC
\nand APC for the governorship election is as a result of our shared love
\nfor the State and our shared vision to liberate Rivers State from the
\nshackles of cultism, rapidly growing poverty and the unsafe nature of our
\nState in the hands of an administration that has wrecked almost everything
\nin our State.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is indeed sad, regrettable, disheartening and pathetic that my running
\nmate will act in the way he did. I feel pity and sorry for him. However, I
\nmust be quick to add that it is one move that has no consequences on the
\nAAC governorship ticket. It is inconsequential in all ramifications. No
\nsane man standing an election as crucial as that of Rivers State will say
\nthe things he said.<\/p>\n

One of the reasons I picked him as my running mate is because of the long
\nrunning relationship between the Ogoni and Kalabari people, dating back to
\npre-independence. I also choose him because I saw a fatherly figure and
\ncapacity in him that could benefit Rivers Youths… I personally saw our
\njoint ticket as Obama\/Joe Biden ticket…,\u201d Awara said.<\/p>\n

The AAC guber flag bearer further stated that governor Nyesom Wike and his
\nsquandering of state resources to get him a second term by all means would
\nfail because Rivers people are wiser. He appealed to the youth and elders
\nalike to work with him to turn around the fortunes of the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cRivers people have firmly taken the position that the outgoing Governor
\nWike can no longer lead them. The antics of Wike in using State resources,
\nour collective wealth to attempt to buy everyone and buy him a second term
\nin office will certainly fail. The so-called defection of my deputy is a
\nploy to distract us. We will not be distracted. We remain focused on
\nliberating Rivers people, our people from the inept, cruel and clueless
\nadministration currently running the State aground.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnemployment is on the rise daily. Private sector growth has a record low
\nin our State. Kidnappings, criminality and youths in cultism is on the
\nrise. Go to Trans Amadi, the industry daughter of Rivers State, all the
\nindustries are packing out to new places\u00a0 outside our State. I weep with
\ndeep sense of sorrow because our attention is taken off human and material
\nvalue.<\/p>\n

\u201cHRM King Alfred Diette Spiff and his likes were older than me when they
\nturned around the old Rivers State into a garden city of wealth with
\nnumerous infrastructure and bonded our rich Rivers heritage. But today, we
\nare losing it. I speak to you my fellow youths and critics,\u00a0 you can be me
\ntoo one day. Rivers State belong to us and we must work together to
\nsalvage her from sinking.<\/p>\n

Petition<\/p>\n

The AAC gubernatorial candidate, Biokpmabo Awara has officially\u00a0 filed a
\npetition to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC against its
\nResident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Obo Effanga, whom they
\naccused of gross incompetence and bias.<\/p>\n

Awara told newsmen in Abuja, \u201c My party and all well meaning citizens of
\nRivers State are dissatisfied with the gross incompetence of the\u00a0 REC and
\nINEC\u2019s decision to continue with the suspended electoral process, as it is
\nclearly not a fair or transparent process.<\/p>\n

We are concerned about the looming electoral crises unfolding in Rivers
\nState and this may most likely result in a breakdown of law and order,
\ndestruction of property and loss of lives.<\/p>\n

In its petition, the AAC laid its grievances and demands bare to INEC and
\nforwarded same to other reputable human rights and international bodies.<\/p>\n

Some of its demands include:<\/p>\n

That, in view of the ceaseless crisis arising from all elections conducted
\nby the REC in Rivers State since 2015, we appeal that the activities of
\nofficials of Rivers INEC should be thoroughly investigated.<\/p>\n

We demand for the Removal of the REC and all the Heads of Department at
\nINEC Rivers State as it is clear that they and indeed most of the Rivers
\nINEC Adhoc staff have all been compromised and cannot be trusted to
\nregulate and superintend the conduct of credible elections in Rivers
\nState.<\/p>\n

INEC should stop further collation and announcement of results of the
\nGubernatorial and House of Assembly Elections which they unilaterally and
\nsurreptitiously compiled after the suspension of the electoral processes
\nas the outcome will undoubtedly be prejudicial and contentious.<\/p>\n

The declaration of results in the 7 LGA\u2019s namely Ikwerre, Ahoada West,
\nAkuku Toru, Asari Toru, Oyigbo, Eleme, and Port Harcourt LGA\u2019s which were
\ncollated and announced both at the unit, ward and LGA levels before the
\nsuspension of the electoral processes should be upheld by INEC, whilst all
\nother collations should be declared null and void.<\/p>\n

We are aware that direct attempts have been made to the RO\u2019s of Asari
\nToru, Akuku Toru and Eleme LGA\u2019s by unscrupulous politicians and corrupt
\nINEC officials to prevail on them to alter the already collated and
\nannounced results in the 7 LGA\u2019s namely Ikwerre, Ahoada West, Akuku Toru,
\nAsari Toru, Oyigbo, Eleme, and Port Harcourt LGA\u2019s. We salute the courage
\nof these RO\u2019s that have withstood these overtures. We emphasize that AAC
\nwill not accept any altered results already declared in the 7 afore stated
\nLGA\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Fresh elections should be conducted in the 16 LGA\u2019s where collations and
\nannouncements had not been concluded as at the time the election was
\nsuspended. We reiterate that any results declared after the suspension is
\ncompletely compromised and totally unacceptable. They should not and
\ncannot be declared or upheld as valid results.<\/p>\n

Announcement of any results based on the compromised process will only
\nlead to a breakdown of law and order which will aggravate the already
\ntense security challenges in the State.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
