President Muhammadu Buhari Friday in Abuja assured Christian leaders in
\nthe country of his commitment to leave Nigeria better than he met it in
\n2015.<\/p>\n
Receiving the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) led by
\nRev Dr Samson Ayokunle, the President affirmed that his administration
\nwill continue to address important national challenges including security,
\neconomy and corruption.<\/p>\n
CAN leadership was at State House to congratulate President Buhari on his
\nre-election, and the President told them the outcome of the just concluded
\npolls underscores the trust Nigerians have in the present leadership in
\nthe country.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018We will continue to strive for peaceful co-existence among all Nigerians
\nirrespective of their religious beliefs.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018In the area of allocation of political offices, our focus will be on
\nmerit and national spread such that every part of Nigeria will have a
\nsense of belonging.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018We remain resolute in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, and
\nefforts to bring back all those in captivity and other victims of
\nkidnappings will be intensified,\u2019\u2019 the President said.<\/p>\n
Commending the important roles religious bodies have played in the last
\nfour years of the administration, President Buhari pledged to continue
\nsupporting several programmes anchored by the Nigeria Inter-Religious
\nCouncil (NIREC), geared towards peace, tolerance, unity and harmony in our
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
In his congratulatory message, the CAN president prayed God to grant
\nPresident Buhari \u2018\u2018everything it takes to perform hundred times better
\nthan\u2019\u2019 his first term, stressing that the organisation had the success of
\nthis administration at heart.<\/p>\n
Rev Ayokunle welcomed the President\u2019s pledge to run an inclusive
\ngovernment in a speech shortly after his re-election, noting that the
\ngesture would give all in the country a sense of belonging.<\/p>\n
The leadership of the Christian body in Nigeria also called for ethnic and
\nreligious balance in the selection of leadership of the ninth National
\nAssembly.<\/p>\n
While appealing to the President to task security agencies to be more
\nproactive in their duties, the CAN leader made a passionate request for
\ndeliberate and relentless efforts to free Leah Sharibu, other Chibok girls
\nand Nigerians in captivity of insurgents.<\/p>\n
