\nLeader of the Pan-Yoruba Socio-Political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo
\nAdebanjo,has said he has President Mohammadu Buhari is not President of
\nNigeria but a President declared by the Independent national Electoral
\nCommission, INEC.<\/p>\n

Adebanjo said Afenifere has evidence that Nigeria\u2019s President Buhari
\nrigged his re-election in February.<\/p>\n

\u201cI maintain my stand that until the Supreme Court rules that he is
\nvalidly elected, I will not recognise him. We have evidence that the
\nelection was rigged, let the court decide otherwise. That is all I am
\nsaying,\u201d Adebanjo said in reaction to the call for his arrest for
\ntreason by National Democratic Front (NDF).<\/p>\n

Adebanjo had, in February, described the 2019 presidential election \u2018as
\na joke\u2019. He insisted he will not recognise Buhari, who was declared the
\nwinner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission
\n(INEC), as president.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, Buhari is the president declared by INEC and not the person
\nthat won the election, and the constitution says if you are not
\nsatisfied by that declaration, go to the tribunal,\u201d Adebanjo said.<\/p>\n

The Adebanjo-led faction of Afenifere did not support Buhari\u2019s election
\nfor the second term during the campaigns. Instead, his Afenifere group
\nendorsed Atiku Abubakar of the opposition People\u2019s Democratic Party
\n(PDP) to unseat Buhari after the election.<\/p>\n

But Buhari was declared the winner of the election. He polled 15, 191,
\n847 votes while Abubakar, a former Nigerian vice president between 1999
\nand 2007, got 11, 262, 978 votes.<\/p>\n

Unsatisfied with the election result, Atiku, who alleged the election
\nwas rigged is currently challenging the presidential election result at
\nthe Election Tribunal.<\/p>\n

While the tribunal is still hearing the case, Adebanjo said Buhari would
\nonly be clear of the election rigging allegations if he is declared as
\nthe winner by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will only recognise him if the court rules that he is the rightful
\nwinner. That is my position and if it is an offence to follow what the
\nconstitution says, then I am ready to go to prison,\u201d Adebanjo said.<\/p>\n

Adebanjo believes his utterance is not a treasonable offence. \u201cBy my
\npronouncement, I have not said anything illegal or unconstitutional.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
