Justice C.J. Aneke of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on<\/div>\n

Monday, May 6, 2019 adjourned to May 28, 2019 further hearing in the
\ntrial of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, representing Delta North, Delta State.<\/p>\n

Nwaoboshi was re-arraigned on Friday, October 5, 2018, alongside two
\ncompanies, Golden Touch Construction Project Limited and Suinming
\nElectrical Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and
\nmoney laundering to the tune of N322million.<\/p>\n

One of the charges reads: “That you, Peter Nwaoboshi and Golden\u00a0 Touch
\nConstruction Projects Limited, between May and June, 2014, within the
\njurisdiction of this honourable court, did acquire a property described
\nas Guinea\u00a0 House, Marina Road,\u00a0 Apapa,\u00a0 Lagos,\u00a0 for the sum of
\nN805million, when you reasonably ought to have known that the sum of
\nN322 million out of the purchase price transferred to the vendors by
\norder of Suinming Electricals Limited formed part of the proceeds of an
\nunlawful activity of fraud and you thereby committed an offence contrary
\nto Section 15(2) (d) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act\u00a0 of 2011(as
\namended) and punishable\u00a0 under Section (15)(3) of the same Act.”<\/p>\n

At the resumed hearing today, the prosecution counsel, Wale Ogunde, SAN,
\ninformed the court that he received a notice from the defence counsel on
\nMarch 26, 2019 that it would not be convenient for the first defendant
\nto be present in court during the proceedings scheduled for May 6, 2019
\n(today) and May 7, 2019 (tomorrow).<\/p>\n

“In view of this notice, I told my witness, who works in a bank, that
\nthe case would not go on today. I also assured him that I would convey
\nthe next adjourned date to him.<\/p>\n

“Up until I sighted both the defence counsel and the defendant in court
\ntoday, I had not received any counter-notice that the defendant would be
\npresent in court today,” Ogunde said.<\/p>\n

Consequently, Justice Aneke adjourned the case to May 28 and 29, 2019
\nfor continuation of trial and ruling.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
