{"id":66537,"date":"2019-05-08T17:13:33","date_gmt":"2019-05-08T16:13:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=66537"},"modified":"2019-05-08T17:13:33","modified_gmt":"2019-05-08T16:13:33","slug":"presidential-tribunal-do-not-analyze-our-proceedings-court-of-appeal-warns-nigerians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/presidential-tribunal-do-not-analyze-our-proceedings-court-of-appeal-warns-nigerians\/","title":{"rendered":"PRESIDENTIAL TRIBUNAL: Do Not Analyze Our Proceedings, Court of Appeal\u00a0 Warns Nigerians"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m3933813220267734253\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">The presidential election petition tribunal has warned against public<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">analysis of its proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during its inaugural sitting on Wednesday, Zainab Bulkachuwa,<br \/>\npresident of the court of appeal, said actions will be taken against<br \/>\noffenders.<\/p>\n<p>Bulkachuwa lamented the practice of analyzing court proceedings on<br \/>\nsocial media and making a verdict while the court has not made a<br \/>\npronouncement.<\/p>\n<p>She said litigants in the pending presidential election petitions before<br \/>\nthe tribunal will have equal chance to argue their case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny breach will not be condoned and we will not hesitate in taking<br \/>\nnecessary action against such offenders,\u201d Bulkachuwa said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe assure all stakeholders that each litigant will be given equal<br \/>\nopportunity to present his case in a mature manner before us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are witnesses to what has been happening in high-profile cases where<br \/>\nsuch cases are being discussed and publicly decided prematurely in both<br \/>\nthe social and electronic media before the announcement of the verdict<br \/>\nby the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe pray that this time would be an exception for the benefit of the<br \/>\nnation. We don\u2019t expect counsel to any of the parties to hype the polity<br \/>\nafter any sitting by making a public analysis in the media as to what<br \/>\ntranspired in court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She urged the parties, lawyers, public commentators and journalists to<br \/>\nrefrain from public discourse of the proceedings until the tribunal<br \/>\npronounces its judgement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese proceedings should be treated as would any other low-profile<br \/>\ncase, where proceedings in court are not discussed publicly until a<br \/>\ndecision is pronounced by the court,\u201d Bulkachuwa said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis admonition is also extended to the parties, their respective<br \/>\ncounsel and the members of the press.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, on our own part, will make relevant information available as and<br \/>\nwhen due.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tribunal will consider four petitions challenging President<br \/>\nMuhammadu Buhari\u2019s victory.<\/p>\n<p>Among the petitions is that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and<br \/>\nAtiku Abubakar, its candidate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"conversation-footer\" class=\"spacer\"><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The presidential election petition tribunal has warned against public analysis of its proceedings.
