Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has accused the General Officer<\/div>\n
\n
Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General
\nJamil Sarhem for running an illegal oil bunkering squad for the purpose
\nof financing his quest to be appointed\u00a0 the Chief of Army Staff.<\/p>\n

Wike also accused Major General Sarhem of sabotaging security meetings
\nin the state, passing information to criminals while having the backing
\nof the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Yusuf Buratai.<\/p>\n

The Rivers Governor declared that any attempt to appoint the GOC of the
\n6 Division of the Nigerian Army as the Chief of Army Staff, would spell
\ndoom for the nation’s failing security architecture.<\/p>\n

He spoke on Wednesday during a Courtesy visit by the Commander of Joint
\nTask Force Operation Delta Safe, Real Admiral Akinjide Akinrinade at the
\nGovernment House, Port Harcourt.<\/p>\n

He said: “The GOC is doing illegal bunkering, which he is using to
\nfinance his quest to emerge as the country’s Chief of Army Staff.<\/p>\n

“He has his own team that is making money for him through oil
\nbunkering”.<\/p>\n

He accused the GOC of the 6 Division of compromising\u00a0 security\u00a0 in
\nRivers State through\u00a0 illegal actions.<\/p>\n

“We will have a security meeting and he will release the details to
\ncriminals. And the Chief of Army Staff will leave the man here because
\nhe is playing their role.<\/p>\n

“How will security of the state be with such a man as the GOC? He will
\ncompromise when fighting to reduce crime, they sent us a GOC who destroy
\nthe security architecture of the state”.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike\u00a0 wondered what the Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe
\nwould do when they encounter the illegal oil bunkering team of the GOC.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike said that Rivers people stopped the GOC and his
\naccomplices from imposing a Governor\u00a0 on the state during the elections.<\/p>\n

“A man came to plot coup. The people resisted him for plotting coup. You
\nwant to impose a party that has no candidate for National Assembly and
\nState Assembly elections on the people. How will such a party win the
\nGovernorship election?\u00a0 A party that nobody\u00a0 has seen their posters.
\nRivers people said no.<\/p>\n

“He has result sheets.\u00a0 Let him bring the result sheets to the tribunal.
\nArmy now has result sheets. That is now part of their mandate “.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike assured the Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Delta
\nSafe that the Rivers State Government\u00a0 will support their operations\u00a0 to
\nensure that they defend the Niger Delta, especially\u00a0 Rivers State.<\/p>\n

He said: “Anybody who wants to help us\u00a0 fight crime, I will support.\u00a0 I
\nwill never support\u00a0 those involved\u00a0 in illegal refineries”.<\/p>\n

Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe, Real Admiral
\nAkinjide Akinrinade thanked the Rivers State Governor for the supply of
\ngunboats, security vehicles and finances for security operations in the
\narea.<\/p>\n

He assured the governor that the Joint Task Force will not relent in
\nfighting crime in the State.<\/p>\n

“Governor Wike is a consummate politician and grassroots leader. As a
\nman who understands National Security, he understands that National
\nsecurity itself is Local.<\/p>\n

“We want to seriously commend you on your numerous achievements you’ve
\nmade since your tenure.\u00a0 I will like to take this opportunity to
\ncongratulate the Governor on the renewal of your mandate to serve the
\npeople of Rivers State for another four years “, he said.<\/p>\n

The Commander said that the Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe has
\nrecorded successes in the protection of oil and gas facilities and the
\nmaintenance of internal security in the area.<\/p>\n

He appealed to leaders to engage youths to shun crime and criminality
\nfor the development of the state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
