\nThe trial of a former director in the Police Pension Office, Esai
\nDangabar and others over alleged N14 billion Pension Fraud, continued on
\nTuesday, May 21, 2019 before Justice Hussen Baba Yusuf of the Federal
\nHigh Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja with a prosecution witness, a
\nformer staff of Standard Chartered Bank, Mustapha Gadanya testifying on
\nsecond defendant’s asset declaration.<\/p>\n

Gadanya affirmed in his testimony that Veronica Onyegbula, who is
\nstanding trial in the alleged N14billion fraud as the second defendant,
\ndeclared her assets as required by law on February 14, 2012 and didn’t
\nown millions of naira nor properties.<\/p>\n

Led in evidence by prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, Gadanya said
\nOnyegbula only had N300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira) only as cash
\ndeposit and N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) only at hand on
\njoining the Police Pension Office.<\/p>\n

“No amount of money held on her behalf by trustee, membership,
\ndirectorship, ownership, shareholding or related interest in a company
\nincorperated in Nigeria and outside Nigeria,” Gadanya said.<\/p>\n

The witness also said that the second defendant had no other property
\nexcept a plot of land in Umuahia, Abia State before joining the civil
\nservice.<\/p>\n

The defence counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) pleaded with the court to
\nconduct the trial in absentia for Dangabar, his client due to his
\nhealth, which was objected to by Jacobs.<\/p>\n

The prosecution counsel argued who that it was uncpnstitutional to
\nproceed with a trial in the absence of the defendant, suggesting rather
\nan adjournment.<\/p>\n

The judge adjourned the matter to May 27, 2019.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
