{"id":66846,"date":"2019-05-23T06:07:06","date_gmt":"2019-05-23T05:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=66846"},"modified":"2019-05-23T06:07:06","modified_gmt":"2019-05-23T05:07:06","slug":"alleged-e250m-fraud-malaysian-docked-remanded-in-ikoyi-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/alleged-e250m-fraud-malaysian-docked-remanded-in-ikoyi-prison\/","title":{"rendered":"Alleged \u20ac250m Fraud: Malaysian Docked, Remanded in Ikoyi Prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m-7270080777004695866\" class=\"mail-message \">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"m-4307630573304925758\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office,<br \/>\non May 22, 2019, arraigned a suspected fraudster, Tan Ah Chai Richard,<br \/>\nalongside his company, Coastal Asia Investments Limited, before Justice<br \/>\nMojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in lkeja, Lagos on a<br \/>\nfive-count charge bordering on forgery, use of false document,<br \/>\nconspiracy to forge and an attempt to obtain money by false pretence to<br \/>\nthe tune of \u20ac250,000,000.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Million Euros).<\/p>\n<p>One of the counts reads: &#8220;That you, Tan Ah Chai Richard, Coastal Asia<br \/>\nInvestments Limited and Dr. Sawang Jana (still at large), on or about<br \/>\nthe 27th September, 2018 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this<br \/>\nHonourable Court, with intent to defraud, conspired to commit felony to<br \/>\nwit: forgery of Swift Telex Advice dated 27th September, 2018,<br \/>\nindicating transfer of the sum of \u20ac250,000,000 (Two Hundred and Fifty<br \/>\nMillion Euros) to Coastal Asia Investments Limited account with Polaris<br \/>\nBank Plc (formerly Skye Bank Plc) from HSBC Bank Plc, London, United<br \/>\nKingdom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another count reads: &#8220;That you, Tan Ah Chai Richard, Coastal Asia<br \/>\nInvestments Limited and Dr. Sawang Jana (still at large), on or about<br \/>\nthe 27th September, 2018 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this<br \/>\nHonourable Court, with intent to defraud, fraudulently used a false<br \/>\ndocument to wit: a Swift Telex Advice dated 27th September, 2018,<br \/>\nindicating transfer of the sum of \u20ac250,000,000.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty<br \/>\nMillion Euros) to Coastal Asia Investments Limited account with Polaris<br \/>\nBank Plc (formerly Skye Bank Plc), which you purported to be from HSBC<br \/>\nBank, London, United Kingdom by submitting the Swift Telex Advice to<br \/>\nChioma Omamegbe of Polaris Bank Plc (formerly Skye Bank Plc).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The defendant, a Malaysian, pleaded &#8220;not guilty&#8221; to the charge preferred<br \/>\nagainst him by the Commission.<\/p>\n<p>In view of his plea, the prosecuting counsel, Bashir M. Kamil, asked for<br \/>\na trial date and also urged the court to remand the defendant in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Counsel to the defendant, A. B.
