Isn\u2019t it too late to return to<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">a system that is outdated and archaic? Why are you wasting your time<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">preaching about the virtues of the Solomonic Dynasty instead of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">embracing the \u201cvibrant democracy\u201d we have in Ethiopia? These are the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">questions I have heard frequently over the past couple of weeks. These<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">questions ultimately end with this simple statement: aychalim (it<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">can\u2019t be done).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">I want to take this moment to answer these questions and provide much<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">needed context for the reasons why I believe the restoration of the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">crown within a constitutional framework is the only way forward for our<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">beloved Ethiopia. I\u2014along with the rest of the executive team at<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Ethiopians for Constitutional Monarchy\u2014did not arrive at this<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">conclusion out of impulse; after observing the political and social<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">upheavals that have and continue to take place back home, I\u2019m<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">convinced that the way to restore a sense of unity and nationalism above<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">tribalism in Ethiopia is through the one institution that kept my birth<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">land unbowed and uncolonized for more than 3,000 years.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">We Ethiopians are a proud people for a reason; our history and heritage<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">deserve mention among the greatest nations throughout the annals of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">human existence. Starting from the Axum Empire and onward, the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">significance of Ethiopia biblically, culturally, scientifically and<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">geopolitically is boundless. Contrary to western indoctrination, the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">fulcrum of civilization is not Europe but the continent that is now<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">referred to as Africa. It is precisely because Ethiopia\u2019s impact was<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">so profound that our neighbors to the north dedicated an exorbitant<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">amount of time and energy trying to erase our nation\u2019s very existence.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">After colonizing Africa with bullets and appropriated bibles,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">imperialists set their sights on the one territory that resisted their<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">virus. Hell bent on annihilating our forefathers and absorbing our<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">motherland into their nascent empire, Italy invaded Ethiopia in 1896.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">They came with hubris, they were sent back in pieces as Ethiopian<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">jegnoch (heroes) refused to give their hands to tyrants. Led by Emperor<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Menelik II and Etege Taitu, Ethiopians routed the Italians and gave hope<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">to billions of people around the world by showing that oppressors could<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">be defeated through unity.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">If not for my forefather Atse Tewodros II who forged Ethiopia during<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">_zemene mesafint _(age of princes), Atse Yohannes after him who died<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">defending Ethiopia from Ottoman aggression and Menelik and Taitu who<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">rallied Ethiopia behind our sendek alema (flag) during the Battle of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Adwa, Ethiopia would have succumbed to the Italians and a biblical land<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">would have fallen under the pentagram of diabolical colonizers. Though<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Ethiopian kings and queens made their share of mistakes in the past, we<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">should never forget that our nation would not have remained intact for<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">more than 30 centuries if not for the savvy and agility of the monarchs.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The defeat at Adwa did not stop imperialists from trying to conquer<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Ethiopia. Forty years after Italians were evicted by force from our<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">land, Mussolini mounted another campaign to incorporate Ethiopia into<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">his column. Our grandparents\u2019 generation were not as fortunate as our<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">forefathers at Adwa, the weapons gap was simply too wide. Consequently,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">fascists overwhelmed fierce _arbegnoch _and occupied Ethiopia for five<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">years.
