President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed satisfaction at the conduct of<\/div>\n
\n
peaceful elections in Nigeria, despite what he called \u201cdoomsday
\npredictions of social disharmony.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his Sallah message to Nigerians to celebrate the end of the Ramadan
\nfasting season, President Buhari commended INEC for a good job despite
\nthe initial difficulties and praised the voters for their tenacity and
\nstrong faith in the democratic process.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore the 2019 general elections, prophets of doom didn\u2019t give the
\ncountry a chance to conduct peaceful elections. Despite these fears, the
\ncountry overcame its political challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor abandoning their businesses in order to vote, the voters had
\ndemonstrated great patriotism in coming out to exercise their civic
\nduty.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me use this opportunity once again to reassure all Nigerians that
\nyour sacrifices in voting for me won\u2019t be in vain. I will ensure the
\nordinary voters feel the positive impact of government,\u201d the President
\nsaid.<\/p>\n

Turning to the lessons of the Ramadan, President Buhari urged Muslims to
\nalways put humanity before personal interests.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ramadan period is meant to reinforce us spiritually, therefore, we
\nshould use religion as an inspiration to do good at all times.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe virtues of the Ramadan should be sustained beyond the celebration.
\nGoing back to bad ways after the Ramadan might defeat the essence of the
\nmessage and lessons the fasting period was supposed to inculcate in the
\nhearts and minds of the Muslim faithful,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

President Buhari also used the occasion to commiserate with victims of
\nterrorism, kidnapping and banditry in the country.<\/p>\n

He reassured Nigerians that under no circumstances would criminals and
\nmass murderers be allowed to hold the country to ransom, saying their
\ndays are numbered because this administration will pursue them
\nrelentlessly and bring them to justice.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
