\nComrade Okechukwu Keshi Ukaegbu has lamented that the Abia State
\ngovernment
\nwas yet to fulfill a pledge it made during the burial of the late civil
\nrights activist, Chima Ubani.<\/p>\n

Ubani, former Executive Director of CLO, died in auto crash on September
\n25, 2005 on the Postikum\/Yobe highway while coordinating the Labour and
\nCivil Society, LASCO coalition protests against the increase in the
\nprices
\nof petroleum products by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo
\nadministration.<\/p>\n

It would be recalled that Ubani hailed from Obete Umuoha village in
\nObingwa
\nlocal government area of Abia State.<\/p>\n

According to Ukaegbu, \u201cduring Chima Ubani\u2019s burial, the then governor of
\nAbia state, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, who was represented by his deputy, Dr.
\nChima Nwafor made a pledge to name a road after the late activist, but
\nnever did that until it left office in 2017.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe federal government has just honoured the president winner of the
\nJune
\n12 1993 poll, but there cannot be June 12 without Chima Ubani, he
\ndeserves
\nto be honoured for his great sacrifices. Chima Ubani died for Nigeria
\n.This
\nis 14 years after his death. Chima Ubani was an activist to the core, he
\ngave his all. It is regrettable that nothing has been named after him.
\nEven
\nthe Abia State government was yet to fulfill a pledge it made to name a
\nroad in honour of Chima Ubani . I commend former Lagos state government,
\nSenator Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing succor to Chima Ubani\u2019s family.
\nChima Ubani may have died in vain.<\/p>\n

The former CLO secretary urged the Abia State government to erect a
\nmonument in honour of Chima Ubani in appreciation of his sacrifices to
\nnation.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
