Ohaneze Ndigbo, the Pan Igbo apex group has warned that Nigeria may
\ndescend into anarchy with the continuous killings and kidnappings by
\nFulani Herdsmen in the country.<\/p>\n
In a statement condemning the spate of killings and the recent killing
\nof Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Chief Fasoranti, signed by Chief
\nNnia Nwodo, President General, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Ohaneze Ndigbo noted that
\nthe inability of the security operatives to disarm and prosecute the
\nFulani terrorist group, emboldens the perpetrators.<\/p>\n
The statement reads:<\/p>\n
News reached Ohanaeze Ndigbo yesterday of the heartless murder of the
\ndaughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, on her way from
\nEkiti to Lagos by supected Fulani herdsmen. We offer Chief Fasoranti and
\nthe entire Yoruba the heartfelt sympathies of Ndigbo.<\/p>\n
The continuous\u00a0 rampaging, plunder, rape, kidnapping and murder of
\ninnocent Nigerians by armed\u00a0 Fulani herdsmen has climbed to a most
\nworrisome crescendo. The inability of our Security Forces to disarm and
\nprosecute these criminals gives credibility to a growing story of
\ncollusion.<\/p>\n
Recently, the British High Commission in an advisory to British citizens
\nin Nigeria declared twenty-four of our states unsafe. In the midst of
\nthese killings, their parent organization has the effrontery to give
\nultimatums to the President of Nigeria to rescind his unpopular
\nsuspension, instead of cancellation of his RUGA development policy. Such
\ninciting, provocative and treasonable outbursts have only been greeted
\nby an advice that they should respect the Presidency and an unrelenting
\nresolve to force Nigerians to accommodate such murderers in their homes
\nunder a policy that violates our constitution and all laws and court
\njudgments relating to land use administration.<\/p>\n
Ohanaeze Ndigbo warns that this latest murder is capable of throwing our
\ncountry into uncontrollable break down of law and order. The hasty
\nconclusion by the Federal Government that she was killed by armed
\nrobbers and not the suspected herdsmen who are known to have laid siege
\non all parts of the country perpetrating\u00a0 acts of banditry and killings
\nfurther exacerbates\u00a0 the already tense situation.<\/p>\n
We call on eminent leaders of this nation in spite of their political
\npersuasions to come together in an urgent National Security Conference
\nto discuss measures that will arrest the extant drift to lawlessness.<\/p>\n
