Unknown gunmen have attacked a serving soldier in the Nigerian Army,
\nidentified as Lance Corporal Adeniyi\u00a0 Mayowa, in Aba, Abia State.<\/p>\n
The incident took place at about 8.45pm, along Georges street, near the
\nAbia State Fire Service, Aba, as the gunmen fired at his car.<\/p>\n
The soldier with Army Number, 13NA\/70\/6609, claimed his life has been in
\ndanger since he reported a case of victimization and false allegation
\nagainst him at the 144 Battalion, 14 Brigade, Ohafia ,to the Army
\nauthorities and the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC.<\/p>\n
Mayowa said he was driving to Ogbor Hill area of Aba when he saw an
\nunmarked Sienna bus which had trailed him from a distance suddenly
\nswitching off its lights.<\/p>\n
He recalled that on June 29, 2019, he had fled into a Police station in
\nAba as the unmarked Sienna bus had also trailed him along Ikot Ekpene
\nroad.<\/p>\n
According to him, “This is the second time the unmarked Sienna bus is
\ntrailing me. On the first day, I drove into a Police station for safety.
\nOn this time, I was driving along Hospital road when I noticed the
\nunmarked Sienna bus trailing me again. I became suspicious when they
\nswitched off their headlamp. They almost caught up with me along the
\nFire service area, but I abandoned my car and escaped. The incident
\nhappened at about 8.45pm as I was on my way to Ogbor Hill. I alerted the
\nPolice at Ndiegoro who came and took away my car.”<\/p>\n
Mayowa who alleged that his life is under threat, has petitioned the
\nPolice to save him and his family.<\/p>\n
In a petition titled, “Petition on a case of Threat to my Life”, and
\naddressed to the Area Commander, Aba, Mayowa, urged the Police to
\nprotect him and his family.<\/p>\n
“It is out of fear and emotional trauma that I write through this medium
\nto you. On the 29th of June, 2019, I was driving to see my lawyer, I saw
\na Sienna vehicle with four fierce looking armed men chasing me, I
\nmanaged to drive to a Police station for safety. It is on the foregoing
\nthat I’m appealing to you to use your good offices to save my soul from
\nthe hands of my enemies,” the petition read in part.<\/p>\n
Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ene Okon, said he was not aware
