Anambra State Ministry of Basic Education has given up to Dec. 31 as
\ndeadline for teachers without right teaching qualifications to acquire
\nit or be disengaged from the system.This is contained in a press release signed by Public Relation Officer
\n(PRO) of the Ministry, Mr Nnaemeka Egwuonwu for commissioner for Basic
\nEducation, Prof. Kate Omenugha.<\/p>\n

According to the release, this is in line with an earlier directive of
\nthe Minister of Education to disengage teachers without requisite
\nteaching qualification by December.<\/p>\n

A reminder was earlier addressed to the Chairman, Post Primary Schools
\nService Commission (PPSSC), Anambra State Universal Basic Education
\n(ASUBEB) and Education Secretaries.<\/p>\n

It referred to the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria’s (TRCN)
\nletter of April 24, which amplified the Minister’s directive.<\/p>\n

The reminder said that qualified teachers should be registered and
\nlicenced by TRCN in line with section 17; sub-section 2 of the enabling
\nlaw establishing the council.<\/p>\n

“I advise those teaching without the requisite teaching qualifications
\nto endeavour to acquire same before on or December 2019 deadline,” the
\nrelease added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Prof. Omenugha has tasked teachers in the federation to
\nutilise the human capital development projects of governments at all
\nlevels to build their capacities for greater service delivery.<\/p>\n

Omenugha said this at the leadership training organised for teachers in
\nSouth-East states in Umuahia, the capital city of Abia state by the
\nNational Teachers Institute (NTI).<\/p>\n

The commissioner noted that there was need for teachers to be computer
\nliterate to fit into the 21st century teaching and learning process.<\/p>\n

She added that teachers being computer literate would help them to
\ndischarge their duties effectively.<\/p>\n

Prof. Omenugha said that the recipient of 2017 World best teacher award
\nMr Clement Okodo was rewarded because of the Information Communication
\nTechnology (ICT) training that he received through state government’s
\ncapacity building system.<\/p>\n

Okodo is a teacher at Central School, Abagana, Anambra State.<\/p>\n

One of the participants, a teacher at Community Secondary School,
\nIfite-Anam, Anambra State, Mrs Helen Echekwube commended NTI for
\norganising the training.<\/p>\n

She added that the training would help them to improve teachers in their
\ncareer path.<\/p>\n

Mrs Echekwube, however, thanked the state government for giving her and
\nother Anambra participants the opportunity to be part of the capacity
\nbuilding initiative<\/p>\n
