The Imo State Government Thursday, inaugurated a 5-man Committee to
\ninvestigate allegations of corrupt practices leveled against former
\nLocal Government Chairmen, Councilors and political appointees from 2011
\nto 2019.<\/p>\n

The Committee is chaired by former Chairman, National Population
\nCommission and renowned legal luminary, Chief Eze Duruiheoma, SAN, with
\nDr. Ken Uzoechi as Secretary.<\/p>\n

Other members of the Committee are: Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, Hon. Ezekiel
\nChukwukere and Mr. Anogwi Anyanwu.<\/p>\n

Inaugurating the Committee, Deputy Governor of Imo State, His
\nExcellency, Rt. Hon. Gerald Irona reminded them of the determination of
\nthe administration of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha to entrench openness and
\ntransparency in governance, urging them not to disappoint people of the
\nstate.<\/p>\n

“It has pleased the government of Imo State, under the dynamic
\nleadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha to set up a
\nCommittee for the investigation of allegations of corrupt practices of
\nformer Local Government Area Chairmen, Councilors and political
\nappointees, from 2011 to 2019.”<\/p>\n

“Pursuant to the notice of allegation in writing against the chairmen,
\nvice chairmen, councilors and political appointees of the 27 Local
\nGovernment Councils in Imo State and the recommendation made to His
\nExcellency, the Governor by the Imo State House of Assembly in that
\nregard, and having regards to the provisions of sections 4, 5 and 6 of
\nthe Local Government Administration Law of 2019, as amended and sections
\n73 sub section 3 of the Local Government Administration Law 2000, as
\namended and all other laws enabling His Excellency in that regard, His
\nExcellency suspended the chairmen, vice chairmen, councilors and other
\npolitical appointees in the 27 Local Government Areas of Imo state for a
\nperiod of six months.”<\/p>\n

“Pursuant to that resolution by the Imo State House of Assembly, His
\nExcellency has graciously constituted a 5-man committee to look into the
\nsaid allegations, as was advised and recommended by the Imo State House
\nof Assembly. It is therefore my honour and privilege to, on behalf of
\nthe Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Chief Emeka Ihedioha to
\ninaugurate this Committee, today, the 18th of July 2019.”<\/p>\n

Continuing, the Deputy Governor explained that the Chairman and members
\nof the Committee were carefully selected on merit and track records,
\nurging them to discharge their duties without fear or favour.<\/p>\n

Reacting, Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Eze Duruiheoma (SAN) thanked
\nthe state Government for finding them worthy of the assignment,
\npromising not to disappoint people of the state.<\/p>\n

“I assure you that this assignment will not be taken lightly. Please,
\nconvey our gratitude to the Governor. We promise not to disappoint him.
\nThis trust that you have reposed in us will not be betrayed, he
\nstressed.”<\/p><\/div>\n
