The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Omu-Aran District, on Wednesday decried the continued erection of structures under its high tension cables.
\nMr Moses Oyewole, PHCN District Manager in the area, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Omu-Aran that such a practice could lead to\u00a0 calamity.
\n“We have severally warned the people on the dangers inherent in putting up structures under high tension cables but the people seem to be unyielding.
\n“Such a practice\u00a0 is suicidal and those under such structures are at a great risk of electric shock and imminent death.
\n“PHCN management should not be blamed or held responsible for any unpredictable circumstances that may befall such occupants,\u201d Oyewole said.
\nHe said that the practice\u00a0 was common in\u00a0 rural settlements\u00a0 as well as the newly designated Government Reservation Areas (GRAs) in the state.
\nHe urged traditional rulers and development associations to educate the people on the need to abide by the rules guiding erection of structures.
\nOyewole also said that the company had reduced the incessant vandalism of its cables through the efforts of law enforcement agencies.
\nHe said that the district was yet to receive free pre-paid metres\u00a0 from the government, adding that those who paid for the item within the district had received theirs.
\nOyewole attributed the regular supply of electricity in the district to the prompt supply of materials by PHCN’s\u00a0 Ibadan zonal office.
\nHe urged residents to report suspicious movements within PHCN installations to the appropriate quarters.
