The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has drawn the attention of Nigerians
\nto the shocking confession by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen.
\nBabagana Mongunu (rtd), that he is not aware of the whereabouts or
\ndisbursement of the $1bn drawn from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) by
\nthe Muhammadu Buhari Presidency in 2017 for security purposes.<\/p>\n
According to a statement signed by Kola ologbondiyan, “this confession
\nby the NSA, who coordinates the security architecture of the nation,
\ndirectly places a huge burden on President Buhari\u2019s doorsteps over
\nreported stealing and diversion of funds meant for security, while
\ninsurgency, banditry, killings and kidnapping fester in the land under
\nhis watch.<\/p>\n
“The revelation by NSA further vindicates the PDP on our initial alarm
\nthat the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration is overtly
\ncorrupt, deceptive and unreliable in the handling the affairs of our
\nnation.<\/p>\n
“It further validates the stance of the PDP that agents of the Buhari
\nPresidency and the APC were hiding under the guise of security to siphon
\nthe $1bn from the ECA. This, peharps, informed the desperation by the
\ncabal to draw from the Account without recourse to statutory due process
\nof appropriation by the National Assembly.<\/p>\n
“From Gen. Mongunu\u2019s confession, Nigerians can further see why our
\nnation is daily confronted with disturbing videos and reports of our
\nfighting troops protesting their neglect and inadequate equipping,
\nleading to their vulnerability in the fronts.<\/p>\n
“Now that the National Security Adviser has declared that he is not
\naware of the whereabouts of funds, the burden, straightaway, lies
\nsquarely on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately address the nation
\non how the money was handled.<\/p>\n
“This is especially as there are already allegations in the public space
\nthat certain funds meant for security were diverted for 2019 campaign
\nactivities of the APC while our troops languished in the front.<\/p>\n
“Our party had always alerted Nigerians that the APC administration was
\ninsincere in the handling of the ECA fund leading to our demand in 2017
\nfor the National Assembly to investigate the handling of the $1bn.<\/p>\n
“The PDP hereby restates our demand that President Buhari allows for a
\nsystem-wide investigation into the whereabouts of the $1bn, as well as
\nthe handling of other funds meant for security purposes under his watch.<\/p>\n
“Furthermore, the PDP invites Nigerians to note that such diversion of
\nfunds under the Buhari administration led to the articulation of a
\nblueprint by Atiku Abubakar for a transparent system that eliminates
