The Coalition for Quality Education Sustainability and Leadership
\nInitiative has urged security agencies in the country to immediately
\ninvestigate and possibly prosecute the new Vice-Chancellor of the
\nUniversity of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Professor Charles Arinzechukwu Igwe
\nfor allegedly falsifying his age.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday and signed by its National
\nCoordinator, Comrade James Ezema, the coalition also noted that it is
\nlooking into other issues allegedly “involving the new VC, which we will
\nmake our findings known in due course”.<\/p>\n

“However, on his age falsification scandal, the new Vice-Chancellor, who
\nwas Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) during the tenure of the
\nimmediate past academic team of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN),
\nhad submitted to the university authorities as contained in his
\ncurriculum vitae, claiming that he was born at Awka, Anambra State of
\nNigeria on August 23, 1958.<\/p>\n

“Whereas a statutory declaration of age on oath in 1974 on behalf of
\nProf. Charles Igwe by Mr. Wilfred Igwe, a native of Awka in Njikoka of
\nthe then East Central State of Nigeria noted that the UNN VC was
\nactually born on August 23, 1955 not 1958 as claimed by the VC.<\/p>\n

“We therefore urge all relevant security agencies to immediately
\ninvestigate the circumstances that led to the alteration of the date of
\nbirth of Prof. Charles Igwe to determine his possible culpability in the
\nsuspected perjury.<\/p>\n

“As a group committed to the sustenance of quality education in the
\ncountry, we believe that a leader who lies on oath has a moral burden on
\nthe shoulder and has primarily compromised.<\/p>\n

“Now, how can a leader who lies on oath uplift the education sector in
\nthe country?”, the coalition queried.<\/p>\n

Prof. Charles Igwe was sworn-in as the 15th Vice Chancellor of the
\nUniversity of Nigeria Nsukka in June 2019.<\/p><\/div>\n
