\u200ePresident Muhammadu Buhari says he has no plan whatsoever to groom a
\nsuccessor for the 2023 presidential election.<\/p>\n

The president stated this while reacting to one of the requests made by
\nthe members of progressives in academics, who visited him at the State
\nHouse, Abuja on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson of the group, Dr. Bolariwa Bolajim had earlier enjoined
\nthe president to commence the proceed of grooming his successor, who
\nwould take over the mantle of leadership from him in 2023<\/p>\n

Bolaji said: \u201cWe are delighted having you and in another four-year time
\nyou would want to go and rest \u2013 then who takes over from you?<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are suggesting that you bring vibrant youths among people who have
\nshown interest, bring them in so that you start saddling them with
\nresponsibilities and you will be watching them over these next four
\nyears so that when you want to leave the circle, you would have vibrant
\nyouths to hand over to.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of the ways the gains of this government can be made to be
\ncontinues \u2013 so that there will be continuity in what you are doing.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

However, President Buhari said he would rather stay away from
\nidentifying anybody as his successor so as not to create a problem for
\nsuch a person.<\/p>\n

The president said: \u201cTo me, this is very funny. I think if I identify
\nanybody I\u2019d create more problems for him or for her.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I\u2019d rather keep my mouth shut. Let those who would want to be
\npresident try as much as I did. And I believe that those who are
\ninterested know that I tried three times.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the first time, I thank God and technology, PVC. Before they just
\ngo to the television and they read the results. They say anybody who
\ndisagreed should go to court.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd most of my supporters are looking for the next day\u2019s meal. They
\ndon\u2019t have money to give to lawyers. So I said God dey. So, the first
\ntime God and technology came along, PVC they couldn\u2019t rig the election
\nso I won.<\/p>\n

The president, therefore, challenged the youths to continue to work
\nharder, saying that they should not take things for granted.<\/p>\n

\u201cI tried to work hard but I think you have a lot more to do you as
\nintellectuals so that you correctly document Nigeria\u2019s political
\ndevelopment. It\u2019s very important for the next generation.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of our young chaps are taking things for granted. Imagine
\ncontesting election three times ending up in Supreme Court three times.
\nIt needs a lot of conviction you know, and hard work.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut people take success for granted. They say, ah, he\u2019s the president.
\nThey think it\u2019s just closed my eyes and I got it? The president asked
\nrhetorically, he added.<\/p>\n

The Members of the progressives in Academics, who were drawn from
\ndifferent tertiary institutions across the country, presented three
\nproposals on revitalization of education, power, and agriculture to the
\npresident possible approval.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
