Voter register was not used in some polling units in Orumba South Local
\nGovernment Area of Anambra state during the conduct of the Feb. 23
\nSenatorial Election a witness has told the Election Petitions Tribunal
\nsitting in Awka.<\/p>\n
Mr Bright Nebedum, who testified for Chief Chris Uba of the Peoples
\nDemocratic Party (PDP) in his petition against Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah said
\nthis at the resumed hearing of consolidated petition no.
\nEPT\/AN\/SEN\/11\/2019 on Monday.<\/p>\n
Nebedum who was introduced by George Igbokwe SAN, counsel to Chris Uba
\nsaid he worked as PDP local government agent for Orumba South.<\/p>\n
He said there were issues in the result from the local government due to
\ninconsistencies.<\/p>\n
The witness\u00a0 who had earlier identified smart card reader reports, voter
\nregister, ward and local government results he deposed in his affidavit
\nsaid the election lacked substantial compliance.<\/p>\n
Nebedum who was cross examined by Obinna Adindu Esq. and John Asoluka
\nEsq. counsels to INEC and Sent.Ubah respectively, said most of the
\nresults were not signed by PDP agents and those that were\u00a0 signed must
\nhave been done by impostors.<\/p>\n
He cited some of the polling units where Voter register was not used to
\nINEC include Eziagu ward 01, Eziagu ward 05 and Eziagu before counsel to
\nSee. Ubah called him to order.<\/p>\n
When\u00a0 asked how possible it was to generate card reader report from
\npolling units where he claimed voter register was not used, Nebedum said
\nthat was why they were in court.<\/p>\n
He alleged that people were authenticated via the card reader machine
\nand allowed to vote without reference to Voter registers, adding that it
\nwas responsible for the non-tally of figures from the voter register,
\nsmart card reader and poll result.<\/p>\n
Also testifying, Josephat Uzor who said he worked as PDP agent in Nnewi
\nSouth told the tribunal that though he was not a professional
\nstatistician, he was involved in the preparation of chats in his
\ndepositions as he provided all the material for it.<\/p>\n
Uzor said he did consider all the political parries that took part in
\nthe election affidavit because most of them were relatively not known
\nand irrelevant to his witness.<\/p>\n
He was referee to some portions of his affidavit where APGA won in some
\nwards and asked\u00a0 if he also had problems with those results, he said yes
\non the grounds that the results, Voter register and card reader were
\ninconsistent.<\/p>\n
Also testifying, Mr Samuel Chukwu Anyakagu, the PDP local government
\ncollation\u00a0 agent in Ihiala council area also denied signing any result
\nfrom the local government.<\/p>\n
Anyakagu said unidentified thugs chased them away with weapons including
\nmachetes and forced INEC officials to sign result adding that there were
\nno results in the pulling unit he voted.<\/p>\n
“The thugs chased us out of the pulling unit with machetes and dangerous
\nweapons, there was confusion in the unit.<\/p>\n
“INEC officials signed those documents under duress because men came and
\nheld them hostage. I saw some signatures but they are not PDP agents
\nthat signed them,” he said.<\/p>\n
Other witnesses that testified on Monday were PDP collation agent for
\nOrumba North, Aguata and Ekwusigo.<\/p>\n
The six witnesses that testified brought the number of Uba’ s witnesses
\nto a total of 14.
\nHon. Justice Thelma Okara chairman of the tribunal adjourned the matter
