\nDealers of Plumbing Materials in Onitsha, the commercial of Anambra
\nstate, on Wednesday, denied involvement in the alleged attack on
\nofficials of the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and
\nControl (NAFDAC).<\/p>\n

Chairman of the association, Mr Ebuka Efuobi, made this known in Onitsha
\nwhile addressing newsmen.<\/p>\n

He denied any knowledge of attack in the market.<\/p>\n

There had been accusation and counter accusations following the attack
\non the NAFDAC officials who were in the market on a tip off to inspect a
\nwarehouse stacked with suspected fake and adulterated drugs.<\/p>\n

Efuobi said his members were not drugs dealers and therefore had nothing
\nto do with officials of the agency.<\/p>\n

He said, “l am not aware that officials of the agency came to my
\nsection. I was not informed and nobody sent for me when they arrived.<\/p>\n

“Nobody was beaten to my knowledge and NAFDAC should know that we deal
\non plumbing materials and not drugs.<\/p>\n

“If they have any issues with the drugs they should ask the drugs
\ndealers popularly called Ogbo Ogwu.”<\/p>\n

The chairman said they had a meeting where they agreed that nobody
\nshould be allowed to park drugs in the market.
\n“We have security here. Maybe they didn’t inform anybody when they
\nbashed into the market, went straight to the warehouse and begin to
\nbreak it,” he added.<\/p>\n

Another member of the plumbing dealers, who preferred anonymity, accused
\nthe drug dealers of masterminding the assault on the agency officials.<\/p>\n

“The truth is that drug dealers are witch-hunting themselves. Who told
\nthem there were drugs parked in a warehouse here at the plumbing market?<\/p>\n

When contacted, Chairman Caretaker committee, Onisha patent proprietors’
\nmedicine dealers’ union bridge head market, Mr Anthony Ezeoba told
\njournalists he had no time to talk to anybody on the issue.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
